Shiremoor
Shiremoor is a village in Tyne and Wear, Northern England. It is in the Metropolitan Borough of North Tyneside and formerly governed under Northumberland. In the 2011 census, it was included in the Tynemouth area of Tyneside. It is near the North East Green Belt, which surrounds Tyneside, Wearside and Durham. It is located around from Whitley Bay. It was built for miners of local colliery pits. The village is made up of smaller areas which were built there in the 20th and 21st centuries. The oldest two areas of the village are Bertram Grange and ''Old Shiremoor''. Park Estate, Leeches Estate, and ''Shiremoor'' centre were built later as the village expanded. It has a population of 4,782. In the early 2000s, Northumberland Park was built: this area, Backworth and West Allotment are all in Shiremoor. Shiremoor Metro Station
Shiremoor is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving the village of Shiremoor, North Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England. It opened in 1980, following the opening of the first phase of the metro, between Haymarket and Tynemouth via Four Lane Ends. History The station is located on the alignment of the former Blyth and Tyne Railway line from to . The station was opened on 11 August 1980, as a replacement for the former Backworth station, which was some to the west and was closed to passengers in June 1977 in preparation for the conversion of the line to the Tyne and Wear Metro. Unlike neighbouring West Monkseaton to the east, which is a converted British Rail station, Shiremoor was purpose-built for the Tyne and Wear Metro. Northumberland Park Metro Station
Northumberland Park is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, and planned future National Rail station, serving the village of Backworth and suburbs of Northumberland Park, Tyne and Wear, Northumberland Park and West Allotment, as well as the nearby Cobalt Business Park, North Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England. The station opened on 11 December 2005, on the alignment of the former Blyth and Tyne Railway. A Network Rail freight line shares the alignment at this point. This line is planned to become part of the Northumberland Line passenger service in the near future, and there are plans for this service to stop at a new platform at Northumberland Park. Tynemouth
Tynemouth () is a coastal town in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside, in Tyne and Wear, England. It is located on the north side of the mouth of the River Tyne, England, River Tyne, hence its name. It is east-northeast of Newcastle upon Tyne. The medieval Tynemouth Priory and Castle stand on a headland overlooking both the mouth of the river and the North Sea, with the town centre lying immediately west of the headland. Tyne And Wear Metro
The Tyne and Wear Metro is an overground and underground light rail rapid transit system serving Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, and the City of Sunderland (together forming Tyne and Wear). Backworth Railway Station
Backworth was a railway station on the Blyth and Tyne Railway, serving the village of Backworth, in the borough of North Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England. It was opened, as Hotspur, on 27 June 1864, along with the Blyth and Tyne's branch to Newcastle New Bridge Street station. It replaced another Backworth station, originally known as Holywell, on the Blyth and Tyne's original line between and . The station was located immediately to the Newcastle side of the junction where the Newcastle branch split, with curves to the Blyth and Tyne's original line, and to its branch to . Backworth
Backworth is a village in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside in the county of Tyne and Wear, England, about west of Whitley Bay on the north east coast. North Tyneside is a metropolitan borough in the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear, England. It forms part of the greater Tyneside conurbation. Northumberland Park is a place in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside. Although built as an individual settlement along the A19 road, it is often referred to as being part of Shiremoor. There are two main housing estates in Northumberland Park and a Metro station, also named Northumberland Park.
