"Shine On, Harvest Moon" is a popular early-1900s song credited to the married vaudeville team Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth. It was one of a series of moon-related Tin Pan Alley songs of the era. The song was debuted by Bayes and Norworth in the ''Ziegfeld Follies'' of 1908 to great acclaim. It became a pop standard, and continues to be performed and recorded in the 21st century. During the vaudeville era, songs were often sold outright, and the purchaser would be credited as the songwriter. John Kenrick's ''Who's Who in Musicals'' credits the song's actual writers as Edward Madden and Gus Edwards. However, David Ewen's ''All the Years of American Popular Music'' credits Dave Stamper, who contributed songs to 21 editions of the Ziegfeld Follies and was Bayes' pianist from 1903 to 1908. Nora Bayes
Nora Bayes (born Rachel Eleonora "Dora" Goldberg; October 3, 1880March 19, 1928) was an American singer and vaudeville performer who was popular internationally between the 1900s and 1920s. She is credited with co-writing the song " Shine On, Harvest Moon" and performed many successful songs during the First World War, including " Over There". She was also noted for her independent views and unconventional private life, becoming an early media celebrity. She made over 160 recordings. ''Shine On, Harvest Moon'' is a 1944 musical–biographical film about the vaudeville team of Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth, who wrote the popular song "Shine On, Harvest Moon." The film was directed by David Butler and stars Ann Sheridan and Dennis Morgan Sheridan's singing voice was dubbed by Lynn Martin. The film is in black and white until its Technicolor finale sequence. Plot In 1905, singer Nora Bayes (Ann Sheridan) impresses songwriter and performer Jack Norworth (Dennis Morgan) at a cabaret run by Dan Costello. ''Shine On, Harvest Moon'' is a 1938 American Western film directed by Joseph Kane and starring Roy Rogers and Mary Hart. Written by Jack Natteford, the film is about a crazed outlaw who looks up a former partner, who has "gone straight", and tries to blackmail him with his past into resuming a life of crime. When this plan fails, the outlaw and his two psychopathic sons re-establish their gang and begin a wave of violence and rustling in the surrounding area, and arrange evidence that his former partner is the actual criminal. The partner's daughter engages the sympathy of Roy Rogers in bringing the truth to light and the real villains to justice. Dave Fleischer (; July 14, 1894 – June 25, 1979) was an American film director and producer who co-owned Fleischer Studios with his older brother Max Fleischer. He was a native of New York City. Flanagan and Allen were a British singing and comedy double act most active during the 1930s and 1940s. Its members were Bud Flanagan (1896 – 1968, born Chaim Weintrop) and Chesney Allen (1894–1982).
