Shiloh, Hardin County, Tennessee
Shiloh is an unincorporated community in Hardin County, Tennessee. Before the Battle of Shiloh/Pittsburgh Landing Pittsburgh Landing (North of the Hornets Nest) “Pitts” Tucker founded Pittsburgh Landing, Tennessee, where he built a tavern and so a town and port. Shiloh (South of the Hornets Nest) Shiloh is of somewhat unknown origins but descendants of the Iroquois settled the area and built the Indian mounds in both Pittsburgh Landing/Shiloh and Savannah, Tennessee. Then, during the Westward Expansion Era, Lewis Wicker bought 400 acres of land in Shiloh/Pittsburgh Landing all the way from at least Perry Field to Downtown Shiloh. He later sold most of the land, only keeping Perry Field, Wicker Field, and the Peach Orchard. Lewis built the infamous “Cabin at Shiloh,“ the only cabin that survived the battle. Tennessee State Route 142
State Route 142 (SR 142) is a 24.59 mile long east-west state highway in West Tennessee. Route description SR 142 begins in McNairy County in Selmer at an intersection with US 45/ SR 5 south of downtown. It goes east to leave Selmer and pass through first farmland, then wooded areas, to pass through Stantonville, where it has a short concurrency with SR 224. The highway then turns southeast to pass through West Shiloh, where it has an intersection with SR 117, before crossing into Hardin County. Shiloh National Military Park
Shiloh National Military Park preserves the American Civil War Shiloh and Corinth battlefields. The main section of the park is in the unincorporated community of Shiloh, about south of Savannah, Tennessee, with additional areas located in the city of Corinth, Mississippi, southwest of Shiloh and the Parker's Crossroads Battlefield in the city of Parkers Crossroads, Tennessee. The Battle of Shiloh (April 6–7, 1862) began a six-month struggle for the key railroad junction at Corinth. Saltillo, Tennessee
Saltillo is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 420 at the 2020 census. Saltillo is located on the left bank of the Tennessee River, about 12 miles north of Savannah. History Saltillo was founded by Thomas Shannon in October 1822. He had left Davidson County, Tennessee and arrived in the area on a keelboat with enough provisions to last one year, two men, Colonel John Holland and Parkerson Mitchell, to assist him, and four black men. The men arrived via Tennessee River and built camp about half a mile from the river. Shannon's wife and seven children came by land with a drive of forty cattle. This cattle would serve as the starting point for Shannon to raise cattle for income, but the cattle were unable to adapt to the change in their environment and feeding.
