Shi (comics)
Shi (Ana Ishikawa) is a comic book character created by writer/illustrator William Tucci. She first appeared in ''Razor Annual'' #1 (December 1993) and has appeared in numerous books by various publishers ever since, most notably Tucci's own Crusade Comics and the Image Universe. Shi is a young woman of Japanese and American descent trained as a '' sohei'' warrior monk, who struggles to reconcile her Japanese grandfather's martial training with her American mother's Christian teachings. Japanese culture and spiritual themes are prominent, recurring motifs in storylines featuring her, especially as they pertain to this conflict. The word ''shi'' literally translates to death (死) in Japanese, and Shi's signature weapon is the ''naginata''. Crusade Comics
William Tucci () is an American comics creator. He is best known for his creator-owned title and character '' Shi''. Career Tucci founded Crusade Comics in Bayport, New York Its flagship title, '' Shi'', debuted in March 1994. Publisher Top Cow's character Witchblade and David W. Mack's character Kabuki debuted in ''Shi'' before going on to their own titles. Tucci operated Crusade Comics until 2002, publishing a number of other titles besides ''Shi''. Brian David-Marshall worked as an editor at Crusade in the 1990s. In 2006 Tucci began penciling Marvel Comics' ''Heroes for Hire'', and DC's VS cards, and later on the DC series ''Jonah Hex'', ''Birds of Prey'', ''Flash Vs. Superman'' and ''Harley Quinn''. Musashi Miyamoto
, was a Japanese swordsman, strategist, artist, and writer who became renowned through stories of his unique double-bladed swordsmanship and undefeated record in his 62 duels. Miyamoto is considered a '' kensei'' (sword saint) of Japan. He was the founder of the Niten Ichi-ryū (or Nito Ichi-ryū) style of swordsmanship, and in his final years authored and ''Dokkōdō'' (獨行道, ''The Path of Aloneness''). Both documents were given to Terao Magonojō, the most important of Miyamoto's students, seven days before Musashi's death. ''The Book of Five Rings'' focuses on the character of his Niten Ichi-ryū school in a concrete sense; his own practical martial art and its generic significance. Vampirella
Vampirella () is a vampire superheroine created by Forrest J Ackerman and comic book artist Trina Robbins in Warren Publishing's black-and-white horror comics magazine ''Vampirella'' #1 (Sept. 1969), a sister publication of '' Creepy'' and ''Eerie''. Writer-editor Archie Goodwin later developed the character from horror-story hostesses, in which capacity she remained through issue #8 (Nov. 1970), to a horror-drama leading character. Grifter (comics)
Grifter (Cole Cash) is a superhero appearing in books published by Wildstorm Productions and DC Comics. Created by artist Jim Lee and writer Brandon Choi, he first appeared in '' WildC.A.T.s'' #1 (August 1992), as a member of that titular superhero team, during the period when Wildstorm and its properties were owned by Jim Lee. In that incarnation, Grifter is a former government operative and member of the military unit Team 7 and the espionage agency International Operations. In 1999, Lee sold Wildstorm to DC Comics, and ownership of all Wildstorm characters, including Grifter, transferred to DC Comics. Fallen Angel (comics)
Fallen Angel is an American fictional comic book heroine created and owned by writer Peter David and artist David López, who appeared in her own self-titled monthly series. The series was originally published by DC Comics from July 2003 until it was canceled with issue #20 in May 2005 due to low sales. A second series, published through IDW Publishing, began in December 2005 and ran for 33 issues. Avengelyne is a comic book character created by Rob Liefeld, Cathy Christian and Tony Lobito. Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. Publication history The original character design for Avengelyne was based on the likeness of former ''Vampirella'' model Cathy Christian.
