Sherwood, Nova Scotia
Sherwood is a community in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada, located in the Chester Municipal District. It is located at the crossroads of Highway 14 and the Old Annapolis Road near Card Lake. The community was established by disbanded British soldiers in 1816 led by Lt. John Evans who named it for his original home in Sherwood, England. Chester Municipal District, Nova Scotia
The Municipality of the District of Chester is a Nova Scotia district municipality occupying the northeastern half of Lunenburg County, Canada. The district boundary was originally drawn for court sessional purposes, before the existence of elected local government. In 1879 it became a district municipality, to provide local government to the residents who live outside incorporated towns. under the authority of the ''Municipal Government Act'' of 1998. Trunk 14 is part of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia's system of Trunk Highways. The route runs from Chester to Milford Station through the Windsor area, for a distance of . Route description From a junction with Trunk 3 and Highway 103 in Chester, Trunk 14 runs north along the Windsor Road to Sherwood beside Card Lake, then northeast through Vaughan and Martock to a junction with Trunk 1 at Currys Corner, in Windsor. Trunk 14 follows Route 1 for a short distance to Garlands Crossing, where Trunk 14 branches off to the east. The route continues through the village of Brooklyn (running concurrently with Route 215 for a short distance) and then proceeds through the Rawdon region, turning southeast along the Nine Mile River to Lower Nine Mile River, where it turns eastward to its end at a junction with Trunk 2 and Highway 102 at Milford Station in the Musquodoboit Valley region. Old Annapolis Road, Nova Scotia
The Old Annapolis Road was a planned direct route between Halifax and Annapolis Royal, the current and former capitals of Nova Scotia, in Eastern Canada. Work began in 1784 and was resumed in 1816 as a military settlement plan for Napoleonic War veterans. Known various times as the Annapolis Military Road, the Dalhousie Road and the Kempt Road, it led to some successful settlements but was never completed and was abandoned in 1829. Some disconnected sections remain in use today. Historical context Annapolis Royal was the original colonial capital of Nova Scotia, until the founding of Halifax in 1749. In the late 18th and early 19th century it remained a commercial center and an important fortified garrison for Western Nova Scotia. It was also the principal gateway to New Brunswick by sea. Sherwood, Nottingham
Sherwood ( ) is a large district and ward of the city of Nottingham, England, north of the city centre. The population at the 2011 census was 15,414. It is bordered by Woodthorpe to the northeast, Mapperley to the east, Carrington to the south, New Basford and Basford to the west, and Daybrook and Bestwood to the north. It should be carefully distinguished from Sherwood Forest, the Sherwood parliamentary constituency, and Newark and Sherwood district council, all of which lie several miles further north outside the city boundaries. Big Tancook Island
Big Tancook Island is the largest of many islands in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. It measures approximately (north to south) by forming roughly a "C" shape. Its area is and has a rocky shoreline with open fields and softwood forest dotted by ponds, residential properties and fish stores. It is separated from nearby Little Tancook Island to the east by a wide strait called "The Chops". Big Tancook Island is approximately from Sandy Cove Point on the Aspotogan Peninsula - the nearest point on the mainland. Wildlife populations are limited to deer, muskrats, snakes, and pheasants, and a great variety of birds. The community of Big Tancook is the only one located on Big Tancook Island.
