Sherbrooke
Sherbrooke ( , ) is a city in southern Quebec, Canada. It is at the confluence of the Saint-François River, Saint-François and Magog River, Magog rivers in the heart of the Estrie administrative region. Sherbrooke is also the name of a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and Census geographic units of Canada, census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Sherbrooke. With 172,950 residents at the Canada 2021 Census, it is the sixth largest city in the province and the 30th largest in Canada. The Sherbrooke Census Metropolitan Area had 227,398 inhabitants, making it the fourth largest metropolitan area in Quebec and 19th in Canada. Sherbrooke is the primary economic, political, cultural, and institutional centre of Estrie, and was given its nickname as the ''Queen of the Eastern Townships'' at the beginning of the 20th century. Évelyne Beaudin
Évelyne Beaudin (born 1988 or 1989) is a Canadian politician. She has served as mayor of Sherbrooke, Quebec since the 2021 municipal elections. With her election, she became the first woman to be elected mayor of the city. Biography Beaudin was born in Rouyn-Noranda, Québec, Canada. A few months after her birth, her family moved to Sherbrooke. Beaudin is an economist by training. She has a bachelor's degree in integrated economics and politics from Laval University and was a master's student in economics at the University of Sherbrooke. Political career In 2011, Beaudin was one of the founders of Option nationale, a centre-left nationalist political party in Quebec. Sherbrooke (federal Electoral District)
Sherbrooke is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1925. Geography This riding in the south of the province is located in the Quebec region of Estrie. It consists of most of the city of Sherbrooke, other than certain areas to the north and south. The riding is enclosed in its only neighbour, Compton—Stanstead. History It was created in 1924 from parts of Town of Sherbrooke and Richmond—Arthabaska ridings. Sherbrooke is a provincial electoral district in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. It comprises the Jacques-Cartier and Mont-Bellevue boroughs of the city of Sherbrooke. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Jacques-Cartier () is an ''arrondissement'', or borough, of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec Quebec is Canada's List of Canadian provinces and territories by area, largest province by area. Brompton, Quebec
Brompton is a borough of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec. The borough comprises the former city of Bromptonville, which was amalgamated into the city of Sherbrooke on January 1, 2002. Prior to December 30, 1998, "Brompton" referred to a township municipality which occupied some of the territory of the modern-day borough of Brompton. Prior to June 12, 1996, the township municipality of Brompton and the city of Bromptonville were part of Le Val-Saint-François Regional County Municipality; on that date they both transferred to Sherbrooke Regional County Municipality (as it was then called). On December 30, 1998, the township municipality of Brompton merged into the city of Bromptonville. The Sherbrooke City Council (in French: ''Conseil municipal de Sherbrooke'') is the governing body for the mayor–council government in the city of Sherbrooke, in the Estrie region of Quebec. The council consists of a mayor and 14 councillors. The councillors each sit both on the main city council and on separate borough councils, which serve a similar function for business that the city delegates to its boroughs instead of to the primary government. The city's smallest borough, Lennoxville, elects only a single representative to the main city council, and elects two representatives who serve ''only'' as borough councillors and do not sit on the main citywide body. Rock Forest–Saint-Élie–Deauville () is an ''arrondissement'', or borough, of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec. The borough comprises the formerly independent cities of Rock Forest, Deauville and Saint-Élie-d'Orford, which were annexed into the city of Sherbrooke on January 1, 2002. Lennoxville () is an ''arrondissement'', or borough, of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. Lennoxville is located at the confluence of the St. Francis and Massawippi Rivers approximately five kilometres south of downtown Sherbrooke. Lennoxville had previously existed as an independent city until January 1, 2002, when the city of Lennoxville, along with several other formerly independent towns and cities in the region, were merged with the city of Sherbrooke. A demerger referendum held on June 20, 2004, failed to attract the required majority of votes to reestablish Lennoxville as an independent city.
