Shemonaikha
Shemonaikha ( kz, Шемонаиха, ''Şemonaiha''; russian: Шемонаиха) is a town in Shemonaikha District in East Kazakhstan Region of eastern Kazakhstan. It is located on the banks of the Uba River, a right tributary of the Irtysh. Population: History Shemonaikha was founded in 1766 as the settlement of Shemonayevskoye. The name was derived from the name of the first settler. In 1896, it was the seat of Alexandrovskaya Volost of Zmeinogorsky Uyezd, Tomsk Governorate. In 1917, Zmeinogorsky Uyezd was transferred to Altai Governorate. On June 13, 1921 the area was transferred to Semipalatinsk Governorate. On January 17, 1928 Semipalatinsk Governorate was abolished, and Shemonaikha became the administrative center of Shemonaikha District of Semipalatinsk Okrug of the Kazak Autonomous Socialist Soviet Republic. East Kazakhstan
East Kazakhstan Region ( kk, Шығыс Қазақстан облысы, translit=Şyğys Qazaqstan oblysy; russian: Восточно-Казахстанская область, Vostochno-Kazakhstanskaya oblast) is a region of Kazakhstan. It occupies the easternmost part of Kazakhstan, and includes parts of the Irtysh River, Lake Markakol, and Lake Zaysan. Its administrative center is Oskemen (also known as Ust'-Kamenogorsk). Anatoli Ivanov (writer)
Anatoli Stepanovich Ivanov (russian: Анато́лий Степа́нович Ивано́в; May 5, 1928 – May 31, 1999) was a Soviet and Russian writer known for his novels on rural topics. Ivanov was born on in the village of Shemonaikha (now in the East Kazakhstan Region of Kazakhstan). His parents, Marfa Loginovna and Stepan Ivanov, came from peasant farming families, but he was not involved in the farm, living in the district center where his father worked as head of the district department of Soyuzpechat'. In 1946-1950 he studied at the journalism faculty of Kazakh State University. Oskemen ( kk, Өскемен, translit=Öskemen ), or Ust-Kamenogorsk (russian: Усть-Каменого́рск), is the administrative center of East Kazakhstan Region of Kazakhstan. Population: Name The city has two official names. In the Kazakh language, its name is Өскемен/''Öskemen'' and in the Russian language it is known as Усть-Каменогорск. Both names appear on the seal of the city. History The city was founded in 1720 at the confluence of the Irtysh and Ulba rivers as a fort and trading post named ''Ust-Kamennaya''.
