Sheffield, Ontario
Sheffield (population 423) is a small village and rural community in the single-tier municipality of Hamilton, Ontario. It is located just off Highway 8, on the municipality's boundary with the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. It is 10 kilometres from the city of Cambridge and 35 from Hamilton's downtown core. The village lay on the road between the two cities until 1959, when the Sheffield Bypass was completed. Ontario Highway 8 still follows the route of the bypass; the main street through Sheffield is now a 2.4 km section of municipal road known as Old Highway 8. Local institutions include Lee Academy, Sheffield United Church, Zion United Reformed Church, and Grace Covenant Church. Ontario Highway 8
King's Highway 8, commonly referred to as Highway 8, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The route travels from Highway 21 in Goderich, on the shores of Lake Huron, to Highway 5 in the outskirts of Hamilton near Lake Ontario. Before the 1970s, it continued east through Hamilton and along the edge of the Niagara Escarpment to the American border at the Whirlpool Bridge in Niagara Falls. However, the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) replaced the role of Highway8 between those two cities, and the highway was subsequently transferred from the province to the newly formed Regional Municipality of Niagara in 1970. Rockton Airport
Rockton Aerodrome is located in Flamborough, Ontario west of Rockton, Ontario, Canada. Description The registered aerodrome is owned and operated by the SOSA Gliding Club as a private airfield. Prior permission is required to fly in (except for gliders). Facilities include two hangars, a workshop, a clubhouse and a campground for members. There are three turf runways at the Rockton Aerodrome: 36/18, 03/21, and 10/28. Field elevation is 846 ft ASL. In the spring the runways are quite soft and it is not recommended that powered aircraft attempt landing without first speaking with someone on the ground (after having previously received prior permission by phone).
