It is the principal city of the Sheboygan Metropolitan statistical area, metropolitan area, which has a population of 118,034. The city is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Sheboygan River, about north of Milwaukee and south of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Green Bay.
