Sharon Kleinbaum
Sharon Kleinbaum (born 1959) is an American rabbi who served as spiritual leader of Congregation Beit Simchat Torah in New York City for thirty-two years. She was appointed the synagogue's first senior rabbi emerita. She has actively campaigned for human rights and civil marriage for gay couples. On July 30, 2021, President Biden announced plans to appoint Kleinbaum to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom. Early life and education Kleinbaum was born and raised in Rutherford, New Jersey. She is a 1977 graduate of the Frisch School and graduated, ''cum laude'', from Barnard College with a degree in political science in 1981. While at Barnard College, she led protests against Barnard's investments in South Africa and against the proliferation of nuclear weapons. She is openly lesbian and has two daughters. Rutherford is a borough in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 18,834, an increase of 773 (+4.3%) from the 2010 census count of 18,061, which in turn reflected a decline of 49 (−0.3%) from the 18,110 counted in the 2000 census. Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association
The Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association (RRA) founded in 1974, is the professional association of rabbis affiliated with Reconstructionist Judaism. It has approximately 300 members, most of whom are graduates of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (RRC) in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. The Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR), founded in 1889 by Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise, is the principal organization of Reform rabbis in the United States and Canada. Frisch School
The Frisch School, also known as Yeshivat Frisch , is a coeducational, Modern Orthodox, yeshiva high school located in Paramus, New Jersey. It was founded in 1972 by Rabbi Menachem Meier and Alfred Frisch. The school primarily serves the Jewish communities of northern New Jersey and southern New York. The school is named for founder Alfred Frisch, who owned the land on which the original campus was situated prior to the school's inception in 1972.
