Shantae Barnes-Cowan
Shantae Barnes-Cowan (c. 2004) is an Australian actress. She is a Adnyamathanha woman who starred in '' Wyrmwood: Apocalypse'', '' Sweet As'' and the TV series ''Firebite''. Other roles include '' Total Control'' and '' Operation Buffalo''. Career In 2021, while studying Year 12 in high school, 18 year old Shantae Barnes-Cowan worked on film sets across Australia. She credited her foster family for helping her juggle her career and education. She completed filming ''Wyrmwood Apocalypse'' and miniseries ''Sweet As'', and began filming the TV miniseries Firebite, all in 2021. She was recognised for her work in 2020 when she received the Whyalla Australia Day Young Citizen of the Year award, and was nominated for the Channel 7 Young Achiever Award in the Aboriginal Achievement category. Adnyamathanha
The Adnyamathanha (Pronounced: ) are a contemporary Aboriginal Australian people of the northern Flinders Ranges, South Australia, formed as an aggregate of several distinct peoples. Strictly speaking the ethnonym Adnyamathanha was an alternative name for the Wailpi, but the grouping also includes the Guyani, Jadliaura, Pilatapa and sometimes the Barngarla peoples. The origin of the name is in the words "adnya" ("rock") and "matha" ("group" or "group of people"). Adnyamathanha is also often used as the name of their traditional language, although the language is more commonly called "yura ngarwala" by Adnyamathanha people themselves (roughly translated as "our speech"), and they refer to themselves as "yura". There is a community of Adnyamathanha people at Nepabunna, just west of the Gammon Ranges, which was established as a mission station in 1931.
