Shankarrao Mohite-Patil was an Indian politician and member of the Congress party. Career He started his legislative career by representing Akluj in the erstwhile Bombay Legislative Assembly from 1952 to 1960. Later he represented the same seat of Akluj (later Malshiras) in the newly created Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1960 to 1972. Maharashtra Legislative Assembly
The Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha or the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the legislature of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nariman Point area of South Mumbai in the capital Mumbai. Presently, 288 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from the single-seat constituencies. Akluj
Akluj is a town on the banks of Nira in Solapur district, Maharashtra, India. Akluj was earlier known for its large trade in cotton, which has almost disappeared at present. It is on the bank of River Nira. The town and surrounding area is agriculturally rich. Former deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, Vijaysinh Mohite–Patil was the sarpanch of Akluj. Historical background Akluj is one of the biggest grampanchayat of Maharashtra. The name Akluj is believed to be derived from 'Shri Akalai Devi' which is Gramadevata of Akluj. Vijaysinh Shankarao Mohite-Patil (born 12 June 1944) is a politician from the Nationalist Congress Party and Member of Parliament (MP) for Madha in Maharashtra since the 2014 general election.
