Shandong Normal University
Shandong Normal University (, English acronym SDNU) is a university in Jinan City, Shandong Province, China. It is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning established in Shandong Province since the founding of the People's Republic of China. History Predecessor schools of teachers education in Shandong date back to 1902. The university itself was established in 1950 and was known as Shandong Normal College () until 1981. The new campus welcomed the first batch of students in 2005. Campus and Statistics The university has two campuses, covering an area of 250 hectares. Currently there are more than 34,000 full-time Chinese students and over 200 international students enrolled. Qilu Culture Research Centre and Elementary Teaching Courses Research Centre at SDNU are the only two key research centers of the humanities established at provincial universities by the Ministry of Education of China (MOE). An Zuozhang (; 10 January 1927 – 20 February 2019) was a Chinese historian who specialized in ancient Chinese history and the regional history of Shandong. A lifelong professor of Shandong Normal University, he was considered in China as a leading expert in the history of Qin and Han dynasties. Biography An was born on 10 January 1927 in Cao County, Shandong, Republic of China. After graduating from the Department of History of Cheeloo University in 1951, he served as a faculty member in the history department of Shandong Normal University until his death. Meigu Guan (, also Romanized as Mei-Ko Kwan or Mei-ku Kuan, born 1934 in Shanghai) is a Chinese mathematician and one of the country's leading experts on mathematical programming. He is known for his research on the route inspection problem, and served as president of Shandong Normal University. Research contributions Guan is known for formulating the route inspection problem. This problem is a generalization of the Euler tour problem, in which the input is an edge-weighted graph and the goal is to find a closed walk of minimum total weight that visits every graph edge at least once. Its applications include transportation planning problems such as planning routes for a fleet of snowplows to plow all the streets of a city, in minimum total time.
