Shabazz Muhammad
Shabazz Nagee Muhammad (born November 13, 1992) is an American professional basketball player for the Hangtuah Jakarta of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL). He played one season of college basketball for the UCLA Bruins before being selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. Muhammad went to Bishop Gorman High School, where he was named Mr. Basketball USA and Naismith Prep Player of the Year in his senior year. He was one of the top rated college basketball recruits in the class of 2012. In his only season with UCLA, he earned All-American honors and was named to the all-conference first team in the Pac-12; he was also voted Pac-12 co-Freshman of the Year. Pac-12 Conference Men's Basketball Freshman Of The Year
The Pac-12 Freshman of the Year is an annual award in the Pac-12 Conference presented to its top freshman player in men's basketball. The winner is chosen by the Pac-12 coaches. The honor began in 1978–79, when it was known as the Rookie of the Year and players in their first year in the conference, including transfers, were eligible. Junior guard Bryan Rison of Washington State was the first honoree and the only non-freshman to ever win. The candidates were limited to freshman starting in 1983–84, when the award was renamed to Freshman of the Year. The conference was known as the Pacific-10 before becoming the Pac-12 in 2011. The 2012–13 Pac-12 Conference men's basketball season began with practices in October 2012 and ended with the 2013 Pac-12 Conference men's basketball tournament from March 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada. The regular season began on the first weekend of November 2012, with the conference schedule starting in December 2012. On March 9, 2013, the UCLA Bruins defeated the Washington Huskies 61–54 to clinch the regular season conference title. They were seeded as the No. 1 team in the Pac-12 Conference tournament in Las Vegas. This was the second season under the Pac-12 Conference name. In July 2011, two schools joined the conference. The All-Pac-12 men's basketball team is an annual Pac-12 Conference men's basketball, Pac-12 Conference honor bestowed on the best players in the conference following every college basketball season. Pac-12 coaches select a 10-player first team and a five-player second team. There were two five-man teams from 1956 though 1979, followed by one 10-man first team from 1980 through 2008. For one year in 2008, there were three five-man teams selected. During the final week of the regular season, Pac-12 coaches nominate up to three players from their team to be placed on the ballot for consideration. Coaches submit their votes by the Sunday after the season ends and cannot vote for their own players. Previously, a player needed to be selected on 50 percent of the ballots to be on the team.
