Seán Walsh (politician)
Seán Walsh (3 April 1925 – 26 December 1989) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He was an unsuccessful candidate at the 1961, 1965 and 1969 general elections. He was elected to the 12th Seanad at the 1969 Seanad election on the Labour Panel. He was elected to Dáil Éireann as Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála A Teachta Dála ( ; ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish language, Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, the parliament of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The official Engli ... (TD) for the Dublin County North constituency at the 1973 general election. He was re-elected at the 1977 general election for the Dublin County Mid constituency. From 1981 to 1989 he represented the Dublin South-West constituency. He lost his seat at the 1989 general election. He died 6 months later on 26 December 1989. A Teachta Dála ( ; ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish language, Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, the parliament of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The official English translation of the term is "Dáil Deputy". An equivalent position would be a Member of parliament, Member of Parliament (MP) in the UK or Member of Congress in the USA. 12th Seanad
The 12th Seanad was in office from 1969 to 1973. An election to Seanad Éireann, the Senate of the Oireachtas (Irish parliament), followed the 1969 general election to the 19th Dáil. The senators served until the close of poll for the 13th Seanad in 1973. Composition of the 12th Seanad There are a total of 60 seats in the Seanad: 43 were elected on five vocational panels, 6 were elected from two university constituencies and 11 were nominated by the Taoiseach. ''Fianna'' ( , ; singular ''Fian''; ) were small warrior-hunter bands in Gaelic Ireland during the Iron Age and early Middle Ages. A ''fian'' was made up of freeborn young men, often from the Gaelic nobility of Ireland, "who had left fosterage but had not yet inherited the property needed to settle down as full landowning members of the ''túath''".
