2010 Czech Senate Election
Senate elections were held in the Czech Republic for a third of the Czech Senate (27 seats) in October 2010. The first round was held on 15 and 16 October 2010, with a second round on 22 and 23 October 2010. The election was a major success for the Czech Social Democratic Party, who gained 12 seats to become the largest party, with 41. The liberal conservative Civic Democratic Party fell 11 seats to 25, while the centre-right group led by TOP 09 lost 4 seats to leave them on 5 seats: equal with the Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party. Results In the first round, a turnout of 44.33% of voters was reached and no candidate gained 50% of the vote in their district, which means the top two in each district advance to the run-off round. This is a list of political parties in the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic has a multi-party system. Due to the electoral system used, a limited number of parties are successful in each parliamentary election. Parliamentary parties There are currently seven parties in the Chamber of Deputies – ANO 2011, the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), Mayors and Independents (STAN), the Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU-ČSL), Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD), TOP 09 and the Czech Pirate Party (Pirates). All of these parties except the SPD also have at least one seat in the Senate. Since the 2022 Czech Senate election, Senator 21 (SEN 21) have had four seats in the Senate, Mayors for the Liberec Region (SLK) have two Senate seats, and Svobodní have one Senate seat. The Senate () is the upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The seat of the Senate is Wallenstein Palace in Prague. Structure The Senate has 81 members, chosen in single-seat constituencies through the two-round system. If no candidate receives a majority of votes in the first round, there is a second round between the two highest-placed candidates. The term of office for Senators is six years, and elections are Staggered elections, staggered so that a third of the seats are up for election every two years. Bohemia ( ; ; ) is the westernmost and largest historical region of the Czech Republic.
