''Seul en scène – Olympia 1972'' (''Alone on stage'') is a double album by poet and singer-songwriter Léo Ferré, recorded live during his time at the Olympia in Paris, in November 1972. Published by Barclay Records in 1973, the record does not initially render the recital in its entirety. To celebrate the centenary of the birth of the artist, Universal released for the first time in September 2016 a complete version, which includes ten songs missing. Track listing All tracks written and composed by Léo Ferré except where noted. The track list here is based on the 2016 complete edition. Léo Ferré
Léo Ferré (; 24 August 1916 – 14 July 1993) was a Monégasque poet and composer, and a dynamic and controversial live performer. He released some forty albums over this period, composing the music and the majority of the lyrics. He released many hit singles, particularly between 1960 and the mid-1970s. Some of his songs have become classics of the French chanson repertoire, including " Avec le temps", "C'est extra", "Jolie Môme" and "Paris-Canaille". Early life Ferré was the son of Joseph Ferré, French staff manager at Monte Carlo Casino, and Marie Scotto, a Monégasque dressmaker of Italian descent from Piedmont; he had a sister, Lucienne, two years older. The Olympia (; commonly known as L'Olympia or in the English-speaking world as Olympia Hall) is a concert venue in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, 9th arrondissement of Paris, France, located at 28 Boulevard des Capucines, equally distancing La Madeleine, Paris, Madeleine church and Palais Garnier, Opéra Garnier, north of Place Vendôme, Vendôme square. The term is most commonly used in English to refer either to the secular polyphonic French songs of late medieval music, medieval and Renaissance music or to a specific style of French pop music which emerged in the 1950s and 1960s. Barclay is a French Universal Music Group record label, originally owned by Eddie Barclay in 1953. Barclay previously established Riviera-LM Records in 1951. Eddie was a bandleader, pianist, producer and nightclub owner. With his wife and vocalist, Nicole, he started a record company. It published the work of Stéphane Grappelli, Lionel Hampton and Rhoda Scott, among others. In 1978, he sold 40% to PolyGram Records. Jazz issues ceased in 1983.
