Christopher Seton
Sir Christopher Seton (1278–1306), also known as Christopher de Seton, was a 13th-century noble, who held lands in England and Scotland. He was a supporter of Robert the Bruce and obtained Robert's sister's hand in marriage. Present during the killing of John Comyn, Lord of Badenoch at Greyfriars Church, Dumfries, he also killed Sir Robert Comyn, who had rushed to Badenoch's aid. Seton was captured at Loch Doon Castle and executed at Dumfries in 1306. Life Christopher Seton was the eldest son of Sir John de Seton of Skelton, Cumberland and Erminia Lascelles. His brothers were John and Humphrey de Seton. This branch of the Seton family had long served the Bruces in Yorkshire, Cumberland and Scotland. Mary Seton
Mary Seton (1542–1615) was a Scottish courtier and later a nun. She was one of the four attendants of Mary, Queen of Scots, known as the Four Marys. She was a sister at the Convent of Saint Pierre les Dames in Reims at the time of her death. Sent to France Mary Seton was the daughter of George Seton, 6th Lord Seton, and his second wife Marie Pieris or Pierres, a daughter of René Pierres, of Plessis Baudouin, and Antoinette d'Hommes. Marie Pierres was a lady-in-waiting to Mary of Guise, the wife of King James V of Scotland. The French Pierres family claimed to have descended from the Percy family of Northumberland. Marie Seton
Marie Seton (20 March 1910 – 17 February 1985) was a British actress, art, theatre and film critic and biographer of Sergei Eisenstein, Paul Robeson, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Satyajit Ray. Maria Seton (''nee'' Sdrolias) is an Australian geologist in the Faculty of Science EarthByte Group School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney. Seton's research is in the field of geophysics and geodynamics. Her main focus is the link between plate tectonic and mantle processes. Seton also works on kinematic controls on subduction and back-arc basin formation and the relationship between tectonics and palaeo-climate. Julia Seton
Julia Seton (also Kapp and Sears; 1862–1950) was an American physician, lecturer and author. After graduating from medical school and working as a physician, Seton modernized the concept of "the Science of Names and Numbers" to what is referred to today as numerology, and it is through her work that numerology became known by the general public. She was friends with Sarah Balliett who created the modern style of numerology. Seton's work represented a million and a half people, of whom 6,000-8,000 were confessed believers. James Alexander Seton
James Alexander Seton (c. 1816 – 2 June 1845) was the last British person to be killed in a duel on British soil. Early life James Alexander Seton was born in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, in 1816, the son of Colonel James Seton and Margaret Findlater. He was of Scottish descent, being a descendant of the Earls of Dunfermline. His grandfather was Vice-Admiral James Seton, governor of St Vincent in the Caribbean. George Seton of Careston FRSE FSA (25 June 1822 – 14 November 1908) was a Scottish philanthropist and genealogist. Early life Seton was born in Perth, Scotland, the son of Captain George Seton, an officer in the East India Company, and his wife, Margaret Hunter. The family lived at Potterhill, Bridgend, east across the River Tay from Perth. Seton was educated at Royal High School, Edinburgh, then studied law at University of Edinburgh, and Exeter College, and finally Oxford, from which he graduated in 1845. Later life Seton qualified as an advocate, passing the Scottish bar in 1846. Ernest Thompson Seton (born Ernest Evan Thompson; August 14, 1860 – October 23, 1946) was a Canadian and American author, wildlife artist, founder of the Woodcraft Indians in 1902 (renamed Woodcraft League of America), and one of the founding pioneers of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) in 1910.
