Kampong Sengkurong is a village in the west of Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. The total population was 5,003 in 2016. Name The names Sengkurong and Bengkurong have a number of different origin stories, but according to Dusun speakers, Sengkurong means Kurong People and Bengkurong means Kurong River. In the past, the region around Sengkurong/Bengkurong was probably known as Kurong. Kurong can also refer to an enclosure. The river that once ran through the area meandered, as do most rivers. It formerly meandered so much that it virtually formed a circle around the location. According to legend, this river's meandering sections once intersected and formed a circle when flooding occurred, but this circular path was interrupted because of the river's rapid flow. Geographically speaking, the circle creates an oxbow lake that is completely cut off from the river. Mukim Sengkurong is a mukim in Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. The population was 31,493 in 2016. Name The mukim is named after Kampong Sengkurong, one of the villages it encompasses. Geography The mukim is located in the western- and north-westernmost part of the district, bordering the South China Sea to the north, Mukim Gadong 'A' to the east, Mukim Kilanas to the south-east, Mukim Pengkalan Batu to the south and Mukim Keriam in Tutong District to the west. Off the coastline of Mukim Sengkurong there are various land extensions to the sea. Some of these prominent 'land extensions' are located near Empire Hotel & Country Club and Pantai Jerudong. Kedayan
The Kedayan (also known as Kadayan, Kadaian or Kadyan) are an ethnic group residing in Brunei, Federal Territory of Labuan, southwest of Sabah, and north of Sarawak on the island of Borneo. According to the Language and Literature Bureau of Brunei, the Kedayan language (ISO 639-3: kxd) is spoken by about 30,000 people in Brunei, and it has been claimed that there are a further 46,500 speakers in Sabah and 37,000 in Sarawak.
