Seneca – On The Creation Of Earthquakes
''Seneca – On the Creation of Earthquakes'' () is a 2023 German-Moroccan historical drama dark comedy film directed by Robert Schwentke, starring John Malkovich as Seneca. The film is about the last days of the ancient philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca and the beginnings of Emperor Nero's despotic regime in Ancient Rome. The film marks one of Julian Sands' final roles, being released following his disappearance in the San Gabriel Mountains in January 2023 and prior to the discovery of his body. The movie was selected at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival in Berlinale Special Gala, where it had its world premiere on 20 February 2023. It was released in cinemas on 23 March 2023. Plot Emperor Claudius banishes Seneca to Corsica and then marries young Agrippina. Later, she requests to Claudius that Seneca becomes tutor to their 12-year-old son Nero. Robert Schwentke
Robert Schwentke (; born 15 February 1968) is a German film director and screenwriter. He is best known for directing '' Flightplan'' (2005), '' The Time Traveler's Wife'' (2009), '' Red'' (2010), '' The Divergent Series: Insurgent'' (2015), '' The Divergent Series: Allegiant'' (2016), '' The Captain'' (2017), and ''Snake Eyes'' (2021). Life and career Schwentke was born in Stuttgart, Southwest Germany and has been passionate about films since an early age. He shot several 8-mm and 16-mm films during his childhood and youth. Pompeia Paulina () (''fl.'' 1st century) was the wife of the statesman, philosopher, and orator Lucius Annaeus Seneca, and she was part of a circle of educated Romans who sought to lead a principled life under the emperor Nero. She was likely the daughter of Pompeius Paulinus, an '' eques'' from Arelate in Gaul. Seneca was the emperor's tutor and later became his political adviser and minister. Pisonian Conspiracy
The conspiracy of Gaius Calpurnius Piso in 65 CE was a major turning point in the reign of the Roman emperor Nero (reign 54–68). The plot reflected the growing discontent among the ruling class of the Roman state with Nero's increasingly despotic leadership, and as a result is a significant event on the road toward his eventual suicide and the chaos of the Year of the Four Emperors which followed.
