Senate Pact 2023
The Senate Pact 2023 ( pl, Pakt Senacki 2023) is an electoral alliance among the Civic Coalition (KO), the New Left (NL), the Polish People's Party (PSL) and Poland 2050 for the 2023 Polish Senate election. The accord was agreed on 28 February 2023 by party representatives Marcin Kierwiński (KO), Dariusz Wieczorek (NL), Piotr Zgorzelski (KP-PSL) and Jacek Bury (Poland 2050). The agreement assumes close cooperation regarding the conduct of the election campaign; in each electoral district for the Senate of Poland, the constituent parties will back one common candidate. Candidates recommended by parties to the agreement and political parties cooperating will have the exclusive right to use the official logo of the coalition. 2019 Polish Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Poland on 13 October 2019. All 460 members of the Sejm and 100 senators of the Senate were elected. The ruling Law and Justice (PiS) retained its majority in the Sejm, but lost its majority in the Senate to the opposition. With 43.6% of the popular vote, Law and Justice received the highest vote share by any party since Poland returned to democracy in 1989. The turnout was the highest for a parliamentary election since the first free elections after the fall of communism in 1989. 2023 Polish Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections will be held in Poland in late 2023 to elect members of the Sejm and Senate, although they can be held sooner if a snap election is called, which last occurred in 2007. The previous election, in 2019, resulted in the re-election of a majority Law and Justice government, albeit without a majority in the Senate. Electoral system The process of election for the Sejm is through party-list proportional representation via the D'hondt method in multi-seat constituencies, with a 5% threshold for single parties and 8% threshold for coalitions (with the requirements waived for national minorities). The date of the election will be set by the President of Poland (consistent with constitutional requirements, whereby the election may be held 30 days before the fourth anniversary of the beginning the current convocation of Parliament, on a non-working day, including public holidays).
