Selbjørnsfjorden
Selbjørnsfjorden is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The long fjord flows east–west between the municipalities of Austevoll, Fitjar, and Bømlo. It is a wide fjord that starts at the Slåtterøy Lighthouse at the North Sea in the west and flows to the strait of Langenuen in the east. The central part of the fjord reaches about wide. Fitjar () is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The municipality is located in the traditional district of Sunnhordland. Fitjar municipality includes the northern part of the island of Stord and the hundreds of surrounding islands, mostly to the northwest of the main island. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Fitjar. The municipality is the 317th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Selbjørn
Selbjørn is an island in Austevoll municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island is the second largest in the municipality (after Huftarøy). Most of the population lives along the northern and eastern coastlines of the island. The commercial centre of Selbjørn is the village of Bekkjarvik, where Bekkjarvik Church is located. Name Selbjørn is based on the old Norwegian word ''Salbjǫrn'' meaning the bear in the saddle. The interpretation is that sailors and fishermen used Selbjørn as replacement for a more ancient "Hund" meaning quarry. However, "Hund" is the same as the Norwegian word for dog and "Hund" in the meaning of dog was according to old tradition something not to be mentioned at sea. The result being Salbjorn or Selbjørn as the new word for "Hund" (quarry). The island's name was used in naming the fjord that lies immediately to the south, Selbjørnsfjorden. Stolmen
Stolmen is an island in Austevoll municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies in a large archipelago just north of the Selbjørnsfjorden. The island of Selbjørn lies to the east, the islands of Huftarøy and Hundvåko lie to the northeast, and the islands of Stora Kalsøy, Litla Kalsøya, and Møkster lie to the north. The island had 206 inhabitants in 2007. The commercial centre of Stolmen is the village of Våge on the southern part of the island. Other villages on the island include Årland in the central part and Kvalvåg on the northern part. Møkster Church is located in the village of Kvalvåg. Stord is an island in Vestland county, Norway. Located in the Traditional districts of Norway, traditional district of Sunnhordland, the island is part of the municipalities of Stord (southern part) and Fitjar (northern part). Slåtterøy Lighthouse
Slåtterøy Lighthouse () is a coastal lighthouse located in the municipality of Bømlo in southwestern Vestland county (previously Hordaland county), Norway. It sits at the western entrance to the Selbjørnsfjorden, marking an island-filled area northeast of Bømlo and northwest of Stord. History The lighthouse was established in 1859 and fully automated in 2003. The round, cast iron tower is painted red with one white horizontal band. At the top, there is a light that emits a 5,180,000 candela, the highest intensity among all lighthouses in Norway. The light sits at an elevation of above sea level and it emits a white light in the pattern of 2 flashes every 30 seconds. The lighthouse was listed as a protected site in 2000 and in 2003 it was fully automated. The ownership of the site was then transferred to the municipal government.
