Selangor State Legislative Assembly
The Selangor State Legislative Assembly () is the unicameral Dewan Undangan Negeri, state legislature of the Malaysian Malay states, state of Selangor. The State Assembly is composed of 56 members representing single-member constituencies throughout the state. Elections in Malaysia, Elections are held no more than five years apart, and by Malaysian political convention, are conducted simultaneously with elections to the Parliament of Malaysia, federal parliament and other state assemblies (except Sabah and Sarawak). It convenes at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building in the capital Shah Alam. Since 2008, Assembly proceedings have been broadcast live on the internet. Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj (Jawi alphabet, Jawi: ; born 24 December 1945) has been the Sultan of Selangor since ascending to the throne in November 2001. Early life and education Sharafuddin was born on 24 December 1945, at the Istana Jema'ah in Klang, Malaysia, Klang, as the first son of the Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Selangor, Salahuddin of Selangor, Tengku Abdul Aziz Shah and his first wife, Raja Saidatul Ihsan binti Tengku Badar Shah (1923–2011). 2023 Selangor State Election
The 15th Selangor state election were held on 12 August 2023 to elect the State Assembly members of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly, the legislature of the Malaysian state of Selangor. Selangor is one of the states which did not dissolve simultaneously with Dewan Rakyat on 10 October 2022. It was decided by Pakatan Harapan on 15 October 2022. The Barisan Nasional (BN) – Pakatan Harapan (PH) electoral pact won the election by capturing 34 of 56 seats, with PH winning a standalone majority of 32 seats and BN winning 2 seats. Plurality voting refers to electoral systems in which the candidates in an electoral district who poll more than any other (that is, receive a plurality) are elected.
