Secaș
Secaș (; ) is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of four villages: Checheș, Crivobara, Secaș (commune seat) and Vizma. History Secaș first appears in written history in 1440. At that time it was assigned to Arad County, was called ''Kyszekas'' ("Little Secaș") and belonged to the Șoimoș Fortress. It continued to exist during the Ottoman period, as Marsigli's writings from 1690–1700 mention it as inhabited. After the conquest of Banat by the Austrians in 1717, the first census took place, in which two localities were recorded: ''Georg in Sekasch'' with seven houses and ''Dollnischas'' with 14 houses, both in the Lipova District. It is not mentioned on the map from 1761, but the very old Orthodox parish has registers since 1779. Later, only one village, Secaș, inhabited by Romanians, is recorded. Timiș () is a county (''județ'') of western Romania on the border with Hungary and Serbia, in the historical regions of Romania, historical region of Banat, with the county seat at Timișoara. It is the westernmost and the largest county in Romania in terms of land area. The county is also part of the Danube–Criș–Mureș–Tisa Euroregion. Timiș-Torontal County
Timiș-Torontal was a county () in the Kingdom of Romania. Its capital was Timișoara. The territory of the county had been transferred to Romania in 1920 from the Kingdom of Hungary under the Treaty of Trianon. Geography Timiș-Torontal County covered 7,600 km2 and was located in western part of Greater Romania, in the Banat. Currently, the territory that comprised Timiș-Torontal County is now mostly part of Timiș County except for the eastern part, the areas around Lugoj and Făget, which are in Arad County. Count Luigi Ferdinando Marsili (or Marsigli, ; 10 July 1658 – 1 November 1730) was an Italian scholar and natural scientist, who also served as an emissary and soldier. Biography Born in Bologna, he was a member of an ancient patrician family and was educated in accordance with his noble social rank. He supplemented his reading by studying mathematics, anatomy, and natural history helped by the best Bolognese tutors and enhanced by his personal observations. After a course of scientific studies in his native city he travelled throughout Asia Minor collecting data on the Ottoman Empire's military organisation, as well as on its natural history.
