Scottish Aviation
Scottish Aviation Limited was an aircraft manufacturer based in Prestwick, Scotland. History The company was founded in 1935. Originally a flying school operator, the company took on maintenance work in 1938. During the Second World War, Scottish Aviation was involved in aircraft fitting for the war effort. This included maintenance and conversion of the Consolidated Liberator bomber. The factory building of Scottish Aviation, which still exists today, was formerly the Palace of Engineering at the Empire Exhibition, Scotland 1938, 1938 Empire Exhibition in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow. The building was dismantled from its Glasgow site and reconstructed. Post-war it built robust military STOL utility aircraft such as the Scottish Aviation Pioneer, Pioneer and larger Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer, Twin Pioneer. Scottish Aviation Scamp
The Scottish Aviation Scamp is a microcar, small Concept car, concept electric car, electric city car that was designed between 1964 and 1966 by Scottish Aviation. The name was chosen as a contraction of SCottish (from Scottish Aviation) and AMP (for electric current). Concept The Scamp was developed by the Project Department of Scottish Aviation as a small, two-seater urban commuter vehicle. The department had been thinking about electric vehicles, inspired by the battery-powered tugs used to move baggage trucks at Prestwick Airport. These were plugged into charger in the basement of the airport terminal in between jobs. It was considered sensible that an electric car could be recharged where it would be expected to park, i.e. at the owner's home, with a recharge time of 8 hours overnight considered reasonable.
