Scarperia is a ''frazione'' of the ''comune'' (municipality) of Scarperia e San Piero, located in the Metropolitan City of Florence, in Tuscany, Italy, about north of Florence. Diotto
The Diotto () is the celebration for the anniversary of the founding of Scarperia, held each year on 8 September. The name itself recalls the date: ''dì'' as for "day" and ''otto'' which means "eight". Actually, the founding occurred on 7 September 1306, but it was decided that the anniversary date should have been the day after, Nativity of Mary, birth of the Virgin Mary. The celebration is a historical reenactment made up of a Medieval pageant, pageant from Florence and Scarperia, and a competition called Palio, which designate both the event and the prize. History Scarperia was founded by decision of the Republic of Florence, Florentine Republic in 1306 to administrate and defend a vast territory north of Florence, on the slopes of Apennine Mountains. Scarperia e San Piero is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Florence, in the Italian region Tuscany, located about northeast of Florence. It was created on 1 January 2014 after the merger of former ''comuni'' of Scarperia and San Piero a Sieve. It is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy"). Scarperia is famous for the production of knives by artisanal family companies. Since 2009, it has been the headquarters of La Marzocco Espresso coffee machine company. Mugello Circuit (in Italian language, italian: ; in English language, english: ''Mugello International Autodrome'') is a motorsport race track in Scarperia e San Piero, Florence, Tuscany, Italy.
