Scarborough railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the South Coast Line, New South Wales, South Coast railway line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the seaside village of Scarborough, New South Wales, Scarborough. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History Scarborough was originally known as Clifton, New South Wales, South Clifton. A hotel named the Scarborough Hotel opened in the area in 1887. Scarborough may be named after the seaside resort in Yorkshire, England; or after one of the convict transport vessels in the First Fleet. The name Scarborough means "Fort on the Rock". The first subdivision of the area took place 1886-1887 and was advertised as "1st subdivision Town of Clifton, on Illawarra Line, 36 miles from Sydney". Lawrence Hargrave Drive
Lawrence Hargrave Drive, part of the Grand Pacific Drive, is a scenic coastal road and popular tourist drive connecting the northernmost suburbs of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia, to Wollongong, in the south, and Sydney, in the north across the scenic Sea Cliff Bridges. It was named after Lawrence Hargrave, an Australian aviation pioneer who lived nearby. Route The road begins at the Old Princes Highway, Helensburgh (Princes Motorway exit) and passes through Stanwell Tops to descend the steep Illawarra Escarpment at Bald Hill, the site of a spectacular lookout and hang gliding area. The road then passes south through Stanwell Park and Coalcliff to cross the Sea Cliff Bridge and adjoining Lawrence Hargrave Drive Bridge. Thirroul railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the South Coast Line, New South Wales, South Coast railway line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the northern Wollongong suburb of Thirroul. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History In the 1870s when settlement of the area began, all the area north of Wollongong was known as Bulli, New South Wales, Bulli and Thirroul was called North Bulli. Before white settlement the area was the land of the Thurrural tribe. There were many different ways of spelling the name which translates to "the place or valley of the cabbage tree palms". Robbinsville was a former name for the village of Thirroul. The village was called Robbinsville after Frederick Robbins, who owned land in the area.
