Sarojini Pillay is a Fijian academic of Indian descent. In the second week of February 2006, Pillay, a former Registrar of the University of the South Pacific (USP), was appointed as the first Registrar of the newly founded University of Fiji, scheduled to take up her duties on 13 March. Pillai or Pillay, () meaning "Child of King" (Prince) or "Child", is a surname found among the Malayalam and Tamil speaking people of India and Sri Lanka. In Kerala, Pillai is the most common title among upper-caste Nairs, often bestowed by the ruling royal families of Kerala and less commonly found among some Brahmins, Nazrani Mappila and Marars of travancore.
