Sardinera
Sardinera is a barrio in the municipality of Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 1,190. History Sardinera was in Spain's gazetteers until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the combined population of Naranjo and Sardinera barrios was 999. A shipment of cocaine with an estimated value of over US$6 million was confiscated in early 2021 at the marina in Sardinera. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, residents of Sardinera were able to participate in (curbside pickup) thus were able to pick up free meals from local food establishments. Fajardo, Puerto Rico
Fajardo () is a town and a municipality part of the San Juan-Caguas-Fajardo Combined Statistical Area in Puerto Rico. Fajardo is the hub of much of the recreational boating in Puerto Rico and a popular launching port to Culebra, Vieques, and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. It is also home to the largest marina in the Caribbean, called Puerto del Rey. The town contains various hotels and inns. Offshore, near Fajardo, a few islets can be found. These are Icacos, Isla Palomino, Palominito, and Diablo, among other uninhabited coral islands and barrier reefs. History Fajardo was founded in 1760, 1773 or 1774 (depending on the authority) as Santiago de Fajardo. It was one of the locations used by the American troops to invade Puerto Rico. Atlantic Time Zone
The Atlantic Time Zone is a geographical region that keeps standard time—called Atlantic Standard Time (AST)—by subtracting four hours from Coordinated Universal Time ( UTC), resulting in UTC−04:00. AST is observed in parts of North America including several Caribbean islands. During part of the year, some portions of the zone observe daylight saving time, referred to as Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT), by moving their clocks forward one hour to UTC−03:00. The barrios of Puerto Rico are the third-level administrative divisions defined with geographic boundaries serving as the primary legal divisions of the 78 municipalities in the archipelago and island of Puerto Rico.
