The Iron Maidens are an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, formed in 2001 as an all-female tribute act to English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. The band currently consists of drummer Linda McDonald, bassist Wanda Ortiz, lead vocalist Kirsten Rosenberg and guitarists Nikki Stringfield and Shani Kimelman. History The Iron Maidens were originally formed in June 2001 by lead vocalist Jenny Warren and bassist Melanie Sisneros, formerly of the Iron Maiden tribute band Wrathchild. Drummer Linda McDonald and guitarist Josephine Draven, both formerly of Phantom Blue, and guitarist Sara Marsh, joined Warren and Sisneros shortly afterward to form the band's first lineup. Sisneros left the band in 2002 to pursue other interests and was replaced by Wanda Ortiz. In 2003, the band started work on their debut album. Wacken Open Air (, abbreviated as W:O:A) is a Heavy metal music, heavy metal music festival, held annually since 1990 on the first weekend of August in the village of Wacken, Schleswig-Holstein, Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Almost all styles and subgenres of hard rock and heavy metal music, metal are represented and hosted. Philip Anthony Campbell (born 7 May 1961) is a Welsh Rock music, rock musician, best known as the guitarist in Motörhead from 1984 until its disbandment 2015 upon the death of founder and frontman Lemmy. He currently tours with his own band Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, featuring his three sons: Todd, Dane and Tyla. Early life and career Campbell was born in Pontypridd, and started playing guitar when he was 10 years old, inspired and influenced by guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, Jan Akkerman, Michael Schenker and Todd Rundgren. The album features selected tracks originally performed by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Michael Kenney, keyboardist for Iron Maiden, appears as a guest musician on the Japanese import version. The album was recorded by the band's third-generation lineup, which consisted of co-founders Linda McDonald (drums), Sara Marsh (guitar) and Josephine Draven (guitar), along with Wanda Ortiz on bass and Aja Kim on lead vocals. Draven left the band a few months after the album was released. Even though her replacement, Elizabeth Schall, was pictured on the Japanese release version, Draven was still credited as playing all stage left guitars. Phantom Blue were the first and only female artists to be signed to Mike Varney's Shrapnel Records, only three months after forming. History Formation and main career (1988–2001) Phantom Blue was formed in 1988 in Los Angeles by Michelle Meldrum and Nicole Couch. Couch and Meldrum were students of Paul Gilbert and Bruce Bouillet of Racer X.
