The Sanctuary of the Miraculous Medal and Saint Augustine ( es, Santuario de la Medalla Milagrosa y San Agustín), popularly known as Iglesia de la Unión (due to its location in the neighbourhood of La Unión) is a Roman Catholic parish church in Montevideo, Uruguay. History The parish was established on 12 October 1849, during the Guerra Grande. In 1896, bishop Mariano Soler blessed the fundamental stone; but the construction of the building took decades, being consecrated in 1930. It has been a landmark of this neighbourhood ever since. Held by the Congregation of the Mission, it is dedicated to Saint Augustine and the Immaculate Virgin Mary of the Miraculous Medal. The Miraculous Medal (french: Médaille miraculeuse), also known as the Medal of Our Lady of Graces, is a devotional medal, the design of which was originated by Catherine Labouré following her apparitions of the Blessed Virgin MaryAnn Ball, 2003 Encyclopedia of Catholic Devotions and Practices'' p. 356 in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal of Paris, France. Las Piedras is a city in the Canelones Department of Uruguay. As of the census of 2011, it is the seventh most populated city of the country. Las Piedras is also the name of the municipality to which the city belongs. Location The city is located on the east side of Route 5, north of the border with Montevideo Department. Bordering La Paz to the south and Montevideo to the southeast, it belongs to the wider metropolitan area of Montevideo. The stream Arroyo de las Piedras flows by the city. History Las Piedras was founded in 1744 under the name "San Isidro". On May 18, 1811 the Uruguayan independence leader don José Gervasio Artigas led patriot forces to victory against Spain at the Battle of Las Piedras. Recorded and produced by Rudy Pagliuca, it is a free download on the website of the record label All of the Above. The album was nominated for "Best Latin Pop, Rock or Urban Album" in the 54th Grammy Awards. The two singles from this album are "Radio Capital" and "Danz!". Background and Recording The album was recorded in Caracas in 2009, on fairly independent terms. Unión is a ''neighbourhood'' of Montevideo, Uruguay. Location Unión shares borders with Mercado Modelo and Villa Española to the northwest, Maroñas to the northeast, Malvín Norte to the east, Buceo and Parque Batlle to the south and La Blanqueada and Larrañaga to the southwest.
