Santana (Portuguese language, Portuguese for Saint Anne) is a town on the eastern coast of São Tomé Island, which is part of the island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe. It is the seat of Cantagalo District. The population of Santana with the adjacent settlements Cidade Alta, Cova Água, Gomes, Nova Olinda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Nova Olinda, Picão Flor, Praia Messias Alves, Riboque Santana and Zandrigo is 10,290 (2012). Santana lies 9 km south of the capital São Tomé and 17 km northeast of São João dos Angolares. The islet Ilhéu de Santana lies about 1 km off-shore, 2.5 km southeast of Santana. São Tomé Island, at , is the largest island of São Tomé and Príncipe and is home in May 2018 to about 193,380 or 96% of the nation's population. The island is divided into six districts of São Tomé and Príncipe, districts. It is located 2 km (1¼ miles) north of the equator. Santana FC
Santana Futebol Clube is a football club that plays in the São Tomé and Príncipe Championship. The team is based in the island of São Tomé. The team has won one title and is the seventh team ever to win their first title as well as their only title in 1991. In the same year, they won the opening and the insular titles as well. Santana are one of two clubs from Cantagalo to get a national competitive honor. Santana was the first São Tomean club to participate in any of the African competitions in 1999, the next appearance was in 2001 and the third was in 2013. Santana was relegated to the regional Second Division in 2011 and remained there for three seasons until they reached the top two. Santana spent three seasons in the Premier Division, in 2016, the club finished 11th place which was inside the relegation zone. Santana is currently in the Second Division for the 2017 season. Maria da Conceição de Deus Lima (born December 8, 1961), is a São Tomé and Príncipe, Santomean poet. Biography Lima was born on December 8, 1961 in Santana, São Tomé and Príncipe, Santana, São Tomé Island, São Tomé, one of two islands in the nation of São Tomé and Príncipe situated in the Gulf of Guinea, off the western coast of Africa. She studied journalism in Portugal and worked in radio, television and in the print press in her native country. In 1993, Conceição Lima founded the weekly independent publication ''O País Hoje'' (The Country Today) which she directed and wrote for during its circulation. She received a degree in Afro-Portuguese and Brazilian Studies from King's College London, King's College in London. Alda Bandeira
Alda Bandeira Tavares Vaz da Conceição (born September 22, 1949) is a politician in São Tomé and Príncipe. Bandeira was born in Santana, São Tomé and Príncipe, Santana, São Tomé in 1949. Her father was a nurse. She studied modern languages at Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, Maputo, Mozambique, received an MA in modern languages and literature from Lisbon University, and studied international relations at the Lisbon Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticas. Bandeira taught in secondary schools in Maputo and São Tomé between 1975 and 1982. Bandeira began her political career as the director of multilateral cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a position she held from 1987 to 1990. São Tomé is the capital and largest city of the Central African island country of São Tomé and Príncipe. Its name is Portuguese for " Saint Thomas". Founded in the 15th century, it is one of Africa's oldest colonial cities. History Álvaro Caminha founded the colony of São Tomé in 1493.
