Santa Rita, Paraíba is a municipality in the state of Paraíba in the Northeast Region of Brazil. Santa Cruz Recreativo Esporte Clube is the municipality's football club. In this municipality is located the Presidente Castro Pinto International Airport which serves the state capital, João Pessoa. The municipality contains the Engenho Gargaú Private Natural Heritage Reserve, which holds a population of the critically endangered blond capuchin monkey (Cebus flavius). Santa Cruz Recreativo Esporte Clube, commonly known as Santa Cruz, is a Brazilian football team based in Santa Rita, Paraíba state. They competed in the Série C twice. Blond Capuchin
The blond capuchin (''Sapajus flavius'') is a species of capuchin monkey endemic to northeastern Brazil. This endangered species was rediscovered in 2006. It can live in exceptionally large groups of over 150 individuals, and like other capuchin species, exhibits a complex and high level of sociality. It is threatened by loss of habitat due to agriculture, primarily sugarcane fields. In many cases this has caused sugarcane to make up a large portion of their diet, which would otherwise consist of mostly fruit and small animals. The blond capuchin is known to inhabit both the Atlantic forest and Caatinga biomes, although the habitation of the Caatinga may be a recent choice caused by human encroachment into its former habitats. Like other primate species, the blond capuchin is also threatened by poaching and capture for the illegal pet trade. Engenho Gargaú Private Natural Heritage Reserve
The Engenho Gargaú Private Natural Heritage Reserve ( pt, Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural Engenho Gargaú) is a private natural heritage reserve in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. Establishment The reserve covers an area of in the municipality of Santa Rita, Paraíba. It was created by decree on 15 June 1994. Before it was created the reserve had been exploited for timber and agricultural crops. Fauna It was thought that the blond capuchin monkey (Cebus flavius) was extinct, but it has been rediscovered in two Atlantic Forest fragments in Paraíba, the Camaratuba Experimental Station and the Gargaú reserve. The animals are listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Sample animals were captured and examined in the Gargaú reserve. They seemed healthy and sufficiently genetically diverse to form a viable population. Presidente Castro Pinto International Airport
Presidente Castro Pinto International Airport is the airport serving João Pessoa, Brazil located in the adjoining municipality of Santa Rita. The airport is named after João Pereira de Castro Pinto (1863-1944), a lawyer, writer and former Governor of the State of Paraíba. It is operated by AENA. History The airport was officially opened on August 20, 1957. Between February 1, 1979 and March 14, 2019 it was administrated by Infraero. Between 1980 and 1981 Infraero conducted major renovations and enlargements of the runway, taxiways and apron and in 1983 a cargo terminal was opened. In 1985 the new passenger terminal was opened and in 1995 it underwent renovations and enlargements.
