Santa Claus is a city in Toombs County, Georgia, United States. The population was 204 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Vidalia micropolitan area. The city has several Christmas-themed street names: Candy Cane Road, December Drive, Rudolph Way, Dancer Street, Prancer Street, and Sleigh Street. History A local entrepreneur named the community after Santa Claus, the Christmas figure, with the aim of attracting tourists to his pecan business and adjacent motel. Santa Claus was incorporated as a city in 1941. Geography Santa Claus is located at (32.170863, -82.331129). It is just off U.S. Route 1. Vidalia ( ''vye-DAYL-yə'', ) is a city located primarily in Toombs County, Georgia, United States. The city also extends very slightly into Montgomery County. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 10,785. Vidalia is the principal city of the Vidalia Micropolitan Statistical Area, a micropolitan area that covers Montgomery and Toombs counties, and had a combined population of 35,640 at the 2020 census. Description and history The town was incorporated on January 1, 1890. It is the largest city in Toombs County, but it is not the county seat. The original name for the town was "Jenkins Station", after a local landowner, Warren T. Jenkins. Toombs County is a county located in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 27,030. The county seat is Lyons and the largest city is Vidalia. The county was created on August 18, 1905. Toombs County is part of the Vidalia micropolitan statistical area. History Toombs County was founded as the 144th county in Georgia by the State Legislature on August 18, 1905, and organized on October 9 of that year. The county was originally formed from portions of Tattnall and Montgomery Counties; a small piece of Emanuel County was added in 1907 to give Toombs County its present-day boundaries. The county is named for Robert Toombs, United States representative and senator.
