picture info	San Simeone, Alvito The Church of San Simeone Prophet () is the main Roman Catholic parish church in the district of La Valle in the town of Alvito, Lazio, in Italy's Frosinone province. History A church at the site dates from 1101, but the base of the bell-tower is the only remaining structure. Reconstruction of the church began in 1527. The facade is simple, with a semicircular tympanum. Above the nave is a baroque dome. The bell-tower retained its Romanesque style, although a clock face was added. The interior was refurbished in the 18th century with a late-baroque coffered ceiling with gilded frames. The church contains a ''Crucifixion'' attributed to the Cavaliere d’Arpino. In 1656 the relics of San Valerio, protector of the village, were transported here. The building was badly damaged by the earthquake of 1915 and was restored in 1934. 	Alvito, Lazio Alvito is a town and ''comune'' in central Italy, in the province of Frosinone, south of Rome in the Lazio region. Its territory is included in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. History Alvito was called in antiquity "Albetum", and was later a possession of the Counts of Aquino and the Cantelmo family. Alvito was the seat of a Duchy, created in 1454, on the boundary of the Kingdom of Naples (later, Kingdom of the Two Sicilies). 	Cavaliere D’Arpino Giuseppe Cesari (14 February 1568 – 3 July 1640) was an Italian Mannerist painter, also named Il Giuseppino and called ''Cavaliere d'Arpino'', because he was created ''Cavaliere di Cristo'' by his patron Pope Clement VIII. He was much patronized in Rome by both Clement and Sixtus V. He was the chief of the studio in which Caravaggio trained upon the younger painter's arrival in Rome. Biography Cesari's father, Muzio Cesari, had been a native of Arpino, but Giuseppe himself was born in Rome. Here, he was apprenticed to Niccolò Pomarancio.
