Samuel Dana Greene Sr. (February 11, 1839 – December 11, 1884) was an officer in the United States Navy during the American Civil War, mostly noted for his service aboard the during the Battle of Hampton Roads. Biography Early life and career Greene was born in Cumberland, Maryland, the son of future U.S. Army General George S. Greene. He entered the United States Naval Academy on September 21, 1855, and graduated on June 9, 1859, with the rank of midshipman. He was stationed on the steam sloop , which transported John Elliott Ward, the American ambassador to various cities in China to settle American claims. Samuel Harrison Greene (December 25, 1845 – September 7, 1920) was an American Baptist pastor, church leader, and university official. Early life Samuel Harrison Greene was born in Enosburg, Vermont on December 25, 1845. He was educated in local schools. At 21, he was elected as the Superintendent of Schools in Montgomery, Vermont. In 1873, he graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, and in 1875 from Hamilton Theological Seminary. He is descended from John Parker. Pastoral positions In 1875, upon graduation from seminary, Greene became pastor of a Baptist church in Cazenovia, New York. In 1879, he was called to Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., where he served until his death in 1920. He led Calvary to become one of the major churches in the nation's capital. Samuel Thomas Greene (June 11, 1843 – February 17, 1890) was a Deaf American educator and Ontario's first Deaf teacher in 1870 at the Ontario Institution for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb, which later changed to Sir James Whitney School of the Deaf in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. He was born in 1843 in Portland, Maine and attended America's first Deaf school in Hartford, Connecticut. Samuel Stillman Greene (May 3, 1810 – January 24, 1883) was an American educator who was a professor at Brown University, headmaster and trustee of the Worcester Academy, and superintendent of schools in Providence, Rhode Island and Springfield, Massachusetts. Early life Greene was born in Belchertown, Massachusetts on May 3, 1810. He was the eight of eleven children born to Ebenezer Greene, a farmer who also taught at the local school during the winter. In 1828, Greene attended private school run by his brother, Rev. John Greene. The following year Greene began teaching in Belchertown. During the winter of 1830-31 he attended Leicester Academy.
