Sam Dunn Robinson
Sam Dunn Robinson (March 21, 1899 – June 7, 1997)Arkansas CourtsA Self-Guided Tour of Justice Building Portraits(2016), p. 17. was a justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court from 1951 to 1965. Robinson was born in Chicot County, Arkansas. He joined the United States Army at the age 18 to serve in World War I. After the war, he returned to Arkansas and did agricultural work including herding cattle. In 1923, Robinson began studying at the Arkansas Law School. He graduated at the top of his class even though he had not received formal education beyond the third grade. He worked as a lawyer for the next 16 years. Robinson was elected as a Prosecuting Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit in 1940. He was elected an Associate Justice in 1950. He served as an Associate Justice until he retired in 1966. Arkansas Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Arkansas is the highest court in the state judiciary of Arkansas. It has ultimate and largely discretionary appellate jurisdiction over all state court cases that involve a point of state law, and original jurisdiction over a narrow range of cases. The Supreme Court holds the power of judicial review, the ability to invalidate a statute for violating a provision of the Arkansas Constitution. It is also able to strike down gubernatorial directives for violating either the Constitution or statutory law. However, it may act only within the context of a case in an area of law over which it has jurisdiction. Chicot County, Arkansas
Chicot County ( ) is a county located in the southeastern corner of the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,800. The county seat is Lake Village. Chicot County is Arkansas's 10th county, formed on October 25, 1823, and named after Point Chicot on the Mississippi River. Osro Cobb
Osro Cobb (May 28, 1904 – January 18, 1996) was a Republican lawyer who worked to establish a two-party system in the US state of Arkansas. In 1926, he was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives from Montgomery County and served as the only Republican member in the chamber for two two-year terms. He was the United States attorney for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas during the Little Rock Crisis of 1957–1958. He served a year on the Arkansas Supreme Court in 1966 as a temporary appointee of Democratic Governor Orval Faubus.
