''Kitchen Stories'' () is a 2003 Norwegian film by Bent Hamer, director of '' Eggs'' and '' O' Horten.'' The film was Norway’s entry for the 2003 Academy Awards and was a selection at the Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals. Plot Swedish efficiency researchers come to Norway to study Norwegian men, in an effort to help optimize their use of their kitchens. Folke Nilsson ( Tomas Norström) is assigned to study the habits of Isak Bjørvik ( Joachim Calmeyer). By the rules of the research institute, Folke has to sit on an umpire's chair in Isak's kitchen and observe him from there, but never talk to him. Isak volunteered for the program with the promise of a horse, but he only receives a dala horse, a little painted wooden statue. Isak stops using his kitchen and observes Folke through a hole in the ceiling instead. Bent Hamer
Bent Hamer (born 18 December 1956) is a film director, writer and producer, born in Sandefjord, Norway in 1956. Biography Hamer studied film theory and literature at the Stockholm University and the Stockholm Film School. In addition to his feature films, he has written and directed a number of short films and documentaries. His first film, ''Eggs (film), Eggs'', premiered at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival where it was shown in the Directors' Fortnight section. That same year, it was shown in competition at the 19th Moscow International Film Festival where it won the award for Best First Film; it also received the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1995 Toronto International Film Festival. His 2003 film ''Kitchen Stories'' screened at many international festivals and was the Norwegian submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Sverre Anker Ousdal
Sverre Anker Ousdal (born 18 July 1944) is a Norwegian retired actor. He is the father of actor Mads Ousdal. Biography Ousdal was born in Flekkefjord, Norway on 18 July 1944. He made his debut in 1965 at Den Nationale Scene in Bergen. He worked at the Oslo Nye Teater between 1967 and 1970, and is since 1970 part of Norway's National Theatre ensemble. He has had major roles in several TV-series like ''Grenseland'' (1980), ''Blodsbånd'' (1998, for which he was awarded an Amanda), ''Familjen'' (Swedish) and ''Deadline Torp'' (2005). He also received the Amanda Award in 1990 for his part in the NRK play ''Kreditorer''. In 1997 he was made a Knight First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St Olav for his acting work. The Tromsø International Film Festival (TIFF) is an annual film festival held during the third week of January in Tromsø, Norway. The inaugural Tromsø International Film Festival was held in 1991. Amanda Award
The Amanda Award () is an award given annually at the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund, Norway, to promote and improve Norwegian film. The award originated in 1985, and has since 2005 been exclusively a film award (not television). Winners are awarded a trophy by the Norwegian sculptor Kristian Kvakland, and the name—and theme—of the sculpture comes from a legendary local woman from the 1920s. The award ceremony is marked every year by a major, nationally televised event. Trond Brænne
Trond Brænne (31 July 1953 – 16 March 2013) was a Norwegian actor, author and radio personality, best known for his many theater and television roles. He was also a decorated writer of children's songs and literature. Personal life Brænne lived with fellow author Iben Sandemose. His son, Bendik Brænne, is a musician and author, and was, together with his father and with his sister, Kaia Brænne, nominated for the 2010 Brage Prize in the category children's literature. In 1999, Brænne suffered a series of heart attacks, which required him to have a heart transplant, an event that affected him deeply. He nonetheless remained highly active, and returned to his normal work schedule soon.
