Sainte-Justine-de-Newton, Quebec
Sainte-Justine-de-Newton () is a municipality located in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 947. The municipality is situated on Route 325 south of Très-Saint-Rédempteur, just east of the Ontario border. History In 1805, the geographic township of Newton was created, likely named after Newton Abbot in England. In 1845, the Township Municipality of Newton was formed, but abolished in 1847. In 1855, it was reestablished as the Parish Municipality of Sainte-Justine-de-Newton, combining the names of the parish and the geographic township. In 1865, its post office opened. In 2008, the parish municipality changed its statutes to become a (regular) municipality. 2021 Canadian Census
The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728. The overall response rate was 98%, which is slightly lower than the response rate for the 2016 census. It recorded a population of 36,991,981, a 5.2% increase from 2016. Planning Consultation on census program content was from September 11 to December 8, 2017. The census was conducted by Statistics Canada, and was contactless as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. The agency had considered delaying the census until 2022. About 900 supervisors and 31,000 field enumerators were hired to conduct the door-to-door survey of individuals and households who had not completed the census questionnaire by late May or early June. Saint-Télesphore
Saint-Télesphore is a municipality located in Vaudreuil-Soulanges Regional County Municipality, Quebec ( Canada). The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 754. The municipality is situated west of Saint-Polycarpe, south of Sainte-Justine-de-Newton, north of Rivière-Baudette and east of the provincial border near North Lancaster, Ontario. The municipality is named for Pope Telesphorus, who reigned from 126 to 138 AD. In addition to the village of Saint-Télesphore itself, the municipality also includes the community of Dalhousie or Dalhousie Station along the Canadian Pacific railway. History Settlement began around 1800 with the arrival of Scottish, Irish, and English immigrants. At that time, the place was called Rivière-Delisle, Lac-Saint-François, or Rivière-au-Beaudet. Newton Abbot is a market town and civil parishes in England, civil parish on the River Teign in the Teignbridge, Teignbridge District of Devon, England. Township (Quebec)
A township (french: canton) in Quebec, Canada, is a cadastral division of the land. The township system was implemented by the British government to facilitate the granting of public lands for settlement by populations of European background, particularly Loyalists from the American Revolution. Townships were initially also a unit of local government, but that is no longer the case. Townships are now used solely for land description and do not have a governmental function. In the Quebec system, townships for the most part are approximately 10 miles by 10 miles square, except for those located on the banks of a navigable waterway which are 9 miles abreast and 12 miles deep.
