Saginaw () is a city in Saginaw County, Michigan, United States, and its county seat. It had a population of 44,202 at the 2020 census. Located along the Saginaw River, Saginaw is adjacent to Saginaw Charter Township and considered part of Greater Tri-Cities region of Central Michigan. The Saginaw metropolitan area had a population of 190,124 in 2020, while the Tri-Cities area had 377,474 residents. Established as a fort following the 1819 Treaty of Saginaw, Saginaw was a thriving lumber town in the 19th century. It was an important industrial city and manufacturing center throughout much of the 20th century due to its automobile and automotive parts production led by General Motors. As part of the Rust Belt, its industry and strong manufacturing presence declined, leading to increased unemployment, crime, and a population decline. Saginaw County () is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 190,124. The county seat is Saginaw. The county was created by September 10, 1822, and was fully organized on February 9, 1835. The etymology of the county's name is uncertain. It may be derived from ''Sace-nong'' or ''Sak-e-nong'' (), as the Sauk () tribe is believed by some to have once lived there. Temple Theatre (Saginaw, Michigan)
The Temple Theatre is a historic theater, located on the banks of the Saginaw River in Saginaw, Michigan. The Temple was built in 1927 for the Elf Khurafeh Shriners, and operated for 50 years by W. S. Butterfield Theatres. The theatre complex also contains the former clubhouse of the Elf Khurafeh Shrine, now in use as event space. Dow Event Center
Dow Event Center (formerly known as Saginaw County Event Center and Saginaw Civic Center) is an indoor arena located in Saginaw, Michigan. The center consists of several parts: The Atrium, The Garden Room, The Theater, The Red Room, Jolt Event Park, and The Arena. It currently houses the Ontario Hockey League's Saginaw Spirit. The Grove (Saginaw, Michigan)
The Grove is residential and institutional historic district located along South Washington Street in Saginaw, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. History The area that is now the Grove saw its first development in the 1870s. During this time, a series of homes was built in the northern section of the district. A second round of development began in 1908, when dredging and other civic improvements made lots in the southern section of the district more desirable. The city waterworks was constructed in 1929 at one end of the district, and in 1936 the City Hall was added at the opposite end.
