Saddlestring, Wyoming
Saddlestring is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in northwestern Johnson County, Wyoming, Johnson County, Wyoming, United States, on the eastern edge of the Bighorn National Forest. It lies along local roads northwest of the city of Buffalo, Wyoming, Buffalo, the county seat of Johnson County. Saddlestring possessed its own post office from 1946 to 1965, and from 1967 to 1999; although the post office is now closed, Saddlestring retains its old ZIP Code of 82840. The post office building still exists; located on the HF Bar Ranch Historic District, HF Bar Ranch, it is a contributing property to a historic district (United States), historic district located on the ranch. The oldest building in Saddlestring is the log barn, which is attached to the Rock Creek Rod and Gun Club. Bighorn National Forest
The Bighorn National Forest is a U.S. National Forest located in northern Wyoming, United States and consists of over 1.1 million acres (4,500 km2). Created as a US Forest reserve, Forest Reserve in 1897, it is one of the oldest government-protected forest lands in the U.S. The forest is well east of the continental divide and extends from the Montana border for a distance of along the spine of the Bighorn Mountains, an outlying mountain range separated from the rest of the Rocky Mountains by Bighorn Basin. Elevations range from along the sagebrush and grass-covered lowlands at the foot of the mountains, to on top of Cloud Peak, the highest point in the Bighorn Mountains. HF Bar Ranch Historic District
The HF Bar Ranch is located in Johnson County, Wyoming about northwest of Buffalo, Wyoming in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains near Saddlestring, Wyoming. The ranch is a working cattle ranch comprising about 36 buildings, built between 1898 and 1921. The ranch is associated with Wyoming state senator and U.S. Congressman Frank O. Horton, who purchased it in 1911 with financial help from his investment banker brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Warren and Demia Gorrell. The Gorrells and their children spent summers in Wyoming, while the Hortons stayed year-round. The ranch includes a number of guest cabins built by the Hortons, Gorrells and their friends, who used the property as a guest ranch and a working ranch. Buffalo is a city in and the county seat of Johnson County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 4,415 at the 2020 census, down from 4,585 at the 2010 census. The city had experienced an economic boom due to methane production from the Coal Bed Methane Extraction method used in the Powder River Basin and surrounding areas. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and location information about more than two million physical and cultural features, encompassing the United States and its territories; the Compact of Free Association, associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau; and Antarctica.
