Saaransh
Saaransh (English: The Gist ) is a 1984 Indian Hindi drama film directed by Mahesh Bhatt, starring Anupam Kher, Rohini Hattangadi, Madan Jain, Nilu Phule, Suhas Bhalekar and Soni Razdan. It is about an elderly Maharashtrian couple living in Mumbai who come to terms with the loss of their only son. This was the screen debut of Anupam Kher. The film had music by Ajit Verman and lyrics by Vasant Dev. It was produced and distributed by Rajshri Productions. It was chosen as India's official entry for the 1985 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and was not nominated. Plot The film begins with B.V. Pradhan waking up early in the morning to write a letter to his son, Ajay, who lives in New York. Midway through the letter, Pradhan remembers the tragic reality: Pradhan received a call from a friend of Ajay's that Ajay has been killed in a mugging in New York. Soni Mahesh Bhatt, born and known professionally as Soni Razdan, is a British actress and film director who works in Indian Hindi-language films. She had established herself as a leading actress of the 1980s and early 1990s and is part of the Bhatt family of Indian cinema. Rohini Hattangadi (''née'' Oak; born 11 April 1951) is an Indian actress, known for her work in Marathi, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Gujarati films, and Marathi soap operas and theatre. She has won two Filmfare Awards, one National Film Award, and is the only Indian actress to win the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Kasturba Gandhi in ''Gandhi'' (1982). Vasant Dev
Vasant Deo (1929-1996) was an Indian writer, lyricist and screenwriter and a Hindi academic at Parle College in Mumbai. He worked in Hindi parallel cinema through the 1980s, working with directors like Shyam Benegal, Govind Nihalani and Mahesh Bhatt. He is best known for "Saanjh Dhale Gagan Tale" sung by Suresh Wadkar, and "Mann Kyun Behka", a Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle duet in '' Utsav'' (1984) directed by Girish Karnad. He wrote plays and poetry in Marathi, and Marathi to Hindi translator. At the 32nd National Film Awards, he won the National Film Award for Best Lyrics for ''Saaransh'' (1984). Akash Khurana
Akash Khurana is an Indian actor, screenwriter, director, author, theatre artist and entrepreneur. His first screen appearance was in Shyam Benegal's '' Kalyug''. Ajit Singh Varman (; 26 March 1947 – 15 December 2016), sometimes also credited as Ajit Verman, was an Indian film music composer. Nilu Phule (Marathi pronunciation: iɭuː pʰuleː 4 April 1930 – 13 July 2009) was an Indian actor known for his roles in Marathi movies and Marathi theatre. Nilu Phule acted in around 250 Marathi and Hindi movies during his film career. He was most prominently seen playing the roles of notorious villains in the movies.
