SVT1 (SVT Ett; commonly referred to as Ettan) is the primary television station of the Swedish public service broadcaster Sveriges Television in Sweden. History Television in Sweden officially launched on 4 September 1956 with the launch of ''Radiotjänst TV'', renamed ''Sveriges Radio TV'' a year later. It would take a few years before achieving national coverage. From 1955 to 1958, Danish television carried a program in Swedish ('' Sydsvenska journalen'') aiming at viewers in Skåne until the link with Stockholm was finished in 1958. The arrival of a second television network, TV2, led to the first channel relaunching as ''TV1'' in 1969, remaining under the Sveriges Radio banner. Sveriges Television AB ("Sweden's Television aktiebolag, Stock Company"), shortened to SVT (), is the Sweden, Swedish national public broadcasting, public television broadcaster, funded by a public service tax on personal income set by the Riksdag (national parliament). Prior to 2019, SVT was funded by a Television licensing in Sweden, television licence fee payable by all owners of television sets. The Swedish public broadcasting system is largely modelled after the system used in the United Kingdom, and Sveriges Television shares many traits with its British counterpart, the BBC. Digital Terrestrial Television In Sweden
Digital terrestrial television was launched in Sweden in 1999. The shutdown of the analogue equivalent started on September 19, 2005, and was finalized on October 15, 2007. The network uses the DVB-T-standard and broadcasts several free-to-air and encrypted channels on a number of multiplexes. The majority of the channels are encrypted and viewing them requires a decoding card. History On April 9, 1997, the Swedish Riksdag decided that digital terrestrial television (DTT) was to be introduced in Sweden. In June 1998, the government decided which channels were to broadcast in the network. The channels that received a national license were: TV3, Kanal 5, Canal+, Kunskaps-TV i Sverige (to be K World), TV8 and Cell Internet Commerce Development (eTV) in addition to SVT1, SVT24 and TV4. SVT2 (SVT Två; commonly referred to as Tvåan), is one of the two main television channels broadcast by Sveriges Television in Sweden. Launched in 1969 by Sveriges Radio, the channel was until the 1990s the most watched in Sweden but now serves as SVT's specialist television network, carrying more highbrow and minority programming compared to the more mainstream SVT1. ''Rapport'' ("Report") is one of the two main news programmes from the Swedish television broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT). ''Rapports main bulletin is broadcast every day at 19:30 on SVT1. It runs for thirty minutes every day except Saturday, when it runs for fifteen minutes. Ever since the 1970s, it has been the most watched news bulletin in Sweden. A shorter version of the show is aired weekdays at 18:00 as part of a thirty-minute bloc on SVT1 that includes ''Kulturnyheterna'' (culture and entertainment news) and Sportnytt (sport news). On weekends the 18:00 edition runs on SVT1 for fifteen minutes. Since 2005, the show has usually been presented by Katarina Sandström, Lisbeth Åkerman and Morgan Olofsson. SVT24, stylized as svt24, formerly known as SVT 24 (then stylized svt 24) or 24 is a Swedish language TV channel broadcast by Sveriges Television (SVT). It started broadcasting in 1999 as a dedicated news channel. In 2003 it extended its scope to include other current events-related programmes and sports at the weekend. Nowadays the channel mainly consists of news, sports, and entertainment programmes with a focus on reruns from SVT1 and SVT2. History SVT24 launched on 15 March 1999 at 13:15. It started with a news summary followed by an official opening by the CEO of SVT. In the beginning, SVT24 simulcasted with other channels a lot of the time, first on SVT2 and in the summer on SVT1. SVT Barn, formerly Barnkanalen and SVT B, is a Swedish free-to-air television channel from state broadcaster Sveriges Television dedicated to children's television programming. ''Barn'' is Swedish for ''children'', whereas ''Barnkanalen'' meant ''The Children's Channel''. (No relation to the British '' The Children's Channel''.) In the first semester of 2023 alone, SVT Barn had a daily reach of viewers exceeding 100 times the volume that Disney Channel has in Sweden. RiksTV
RiksTV is the distributor of pay television in the Norwegian digital terrestrial television network. Except for NRK1, NRK2, NRK3/ NRK Super and the NRK radio channels, all broadcasts in the Norwegian DTT network are encrypted. The channels that are broadcast in the RiksTV packages are selected by RiksTV themselves. History Pre-launch Some of the initial discussions concerned the availability of free-to-air channels other than the ones from NRK. TV 2 and TVNorge had stated that their channels would be encrypted, although they were free-to-air in the analogue network. ''Aktuellt'' (literally "current; topical" or "actual") is a Swedish nightly news programme produced by Sveriges Television (SVT) and broadcast on its second channel, SVT2 in Sweden. It was first broadcast on 2 September 1958. With the start of TV 2 (forerunner of SVT2) in 1969, the ''Aktuellt'' brand disappeared but was revived in 1972 when TV1 began airing two main news bulletins at 6 pm and 9 pm. The 6pm bulletin was moved to SVT2 in 1997, followed on 15 January 2001 by the 9 pm edition. The year before, editorial responsibility for ''Aktuellt'', ''Rapport'' (SVT1's news programme), and SVT's news channel, SVT24, was unified; nevertheless, the name "Aktuellt" continues to be used to designate SVT2's news programmes. Så Ska Det Låta
''Så ska det låta'' was a Swedish game show, based on the Irish '' The Lyrics Board''. The show was introduced in 1997 and led by Peter Harryson until Peter Settman took over in 2006. In 2014, Kalle Moraeus became the third host of the show. In 2018, Sarah Dawn Finer became the fourth host of the program and the first female host of the show. The program was originally broadcast on Friday evenings, but from 2012 until the closure in 2020, the program was instead broadcast on Sunday evenings. In February 2020, SVT announced that it had decided to close the program indefinitely after season 25, in the spring of 2020. Since then, no new episodes of the program have been produced or broadcast. On May 22, 2022, the series Så ska det låta celebrates 25 years to celebrate 25 years since the program premiered. TV4 (''TV fyra'') is a Sweden, Swedish free-to-air Television in Sweden, television network owned by TV4 AB, a subsidiary of the TV4 Media, TV4 Media AB. It started broadcasting by satellite in 1990 and, since 1992, on terrestrial television. In 1994, TV4 became the largest channel and remained so for a number of years. The two channels of Sveriges Television (SVT) lost more and more viewers for a couple of years. After making schedule changes in 2001, SVT1 had practically the same numbers of viewers as TV4.
