Stereotypic Movement Disorder
Stereotypic movement disorder (SMD) is a motor disorder with onset in childhood involving restrictive and/or repetitive, nonfunctional motor behavior (e.g., hand waving or head banging), that markedly interferes with normal activities or results in bodily injury. While stereotypic movements are common in infancy and early childhood, a diagnosis of SMD is made only when such behaviors are prolonged, intense, and cause significant impairment. The diagnosis requires that the behavior in question must not be due to the direct effects of a substance, autism, or another medical condition. The cause of this disorder is not known. However, current research suggests that dysfunction in corticostriatal-thalamo-cortical (CSTC) circuits and imbalances between the direct and indirect pathways of the basal ganglia may play a role in its development. Both environmental and genetic factors have been proposed as potential risk factors. Environmental factors include limited social interaction, ne ...

Single-member District
A single-member district or constituency is an electoral district represented by a single officeholder. It contrasts with a multi-member district, which is represented by multiple officeholders. In some countries, such as Australia and India, members of the lower house of parliament are elected from single-member districts, while members of the upper house are elected from multi-member districts. In some other countries, such as Singapore, members of parliament can be elected from either single-member or multi-member districts. History in the United States The United States Constitution, ratified in 1789, states: "The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States...Representatives...shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers." In other words, the Constitution specifies that each state will be apportioned a number of representa ...

SMD LED
The light from white LED lamps and LED strip lights is usually provided by industry standard surface-mounted device LEDs (SMD LEDs).SMD-LED-Module-Definitiowhat is a SMD LED Modulehttps://www.optonicaled.at] Non-SMD types of LED lighting also exist, such as COB (chip on board) and MCOB (multi-COB). An electrical component mounted in this manner is referred ... LED modules are described by the dimensions of the LED package. A single multicolor module may have three individual LEDs within that package, one each of red, green and blue, to allow many colors or shades of white to be selected, by varying the brightness of the individual LEDs. LED brightness may be increased by using a higher driving current, at the cost of reducing the device's lifespan. References {{r ...

Surface-mount Technology
Surface-mount technology (SMT), originally called planar mounting, is a method in which the electrical components are mounted directly onto the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB). An electrical component mounted in this manner is referred to as a surface-mount device (SMD). In industry, this approach has largely replaced through-hole technology construction method of fitting components, in large part because SMT allows for increased manufacturing automation which reduces cost and improves quality. It also allows for more components to fit on a given area of substrate. Both technologies can be used on the same board, with the through-hole technology often used for components not suitable for surface mounting such as large transformers and heat-sinked power semiconductors. An SMT component is usually smaller than its through-hole counterpart because it has either smaller leads or no leads at all. It may have short pins or leads of various styles, flat contacts, a matrix of ...

Storage Module Device
Storage Module Device (SMD) is a family of storage devices (hard disk drives) that were first shipped by Control Data Corporation in December 1973 as the CDC 9760 40 megabyte, MB (unformatted) storage module disk drive.Control Data Corporation Newsletter, Summer 1977 Edition, p. 6 The CDC 9762 80 MB variant was announced in June 1974 and the CDC 9764 150 MB and the CDC 9766 300 MB variants were announced in 1975 (all capacities unformatted). A non-removable media variant family of 12, 24 and 48 MB capacity, the MMD, was then announced in 1976. This family's interface, SMD, derived from the earlier Digital Equipment Corporation, Digital RP0x interface, was documented as ANSI Standard X3.91M - 1982, Storage Module Interfaces with Extensions for Enhanced Storage Module Interfaces. The SMD interface is based upon a definition of two flat interface cables ("A" control and "B" data) which run from the disk drive to a hard disk drive interface and then to a computer. This interface allo ...

Sauter Mean Diameter
In fluid dynamics, Sauter mean diameter (SMD) is an average measure of particle size. It was originally developed by German scientist Josef Sauter in the late 1920s. It is defined as the diameter of a sphere that has the same volume/surface area ratio as a particle of interest. Several methods have been devised to obtain a good estimate of the SMD. Definition The Sauter diameter (''SD'', also denoted ''D'' ,2or ''d''32) for a given particle is defined as: :SD = \frac where ''d''''s'' is the so-called ''surface diameter'' and ''d''''v'' is the ''volume diameter'', defined as: :d_s = \sqrt :d_v = \left(\frac\right)^, The quantities ''A''''p'' and ''V''''p'' are the ordinary surface area and volume of the particle, respectively. The equation may be simplified further as: :SD = 6\frac. This is usually taken as the mean of several measurements ''n'', to obtain the Sauter mean diameter (SMD): :SMD = \sum_i^n SD_i / n This provides intrinsic data that help determine the part ...

Effect Size
In statistics, an effect size is a value measuring the strength of the relationship between two variables in a population, or a sample-based estimate of that quantity. It can refer to the value of a statistic calculated from a sample of data, the value of one parameter for a hypothetical population, or to the equation that operationalizes how statistics or parameters lead to the effect size value. Examples of effect sizes include the correlation between two variables, the regression coefficient in a regression, the mean difference, or the risk of a particular event (such as a heart attack) happening. Effect sizes are a complement tool for statistical hypothesis testing, and play an important role in power analyses to assess the sample size required for new experiments. Effect size are fundamental in meta-analyses which aim to provide the combined effect size based on data from multiple studies. The cluster of data-analysis methods concerning effect sizes is referred to as estima ...
