George Simion
George Nicolae Simion (born 21 September 1986 in Focșani, Romania) is a Romanian right-wing to far-right politician and civic activist. He is the president of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), a political party in Romania that gained popularity after its unexpected high result in the 2020 Romanian legislative election. Simion studied at some of the most prestigious national educational institutions in Romania such as the Gheorghe Lazăr National College, the University of Bucharest, and the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, getting in the latter a master's degree in history. After this, he began to be a civic activist in favor of the unification of Moldova and Romania. Simion Ghimpu (May 24, 1939 in Coloniţa – July 27, 2010) was a writer from Moldova. Biography Simion Ghimpu was born to Irina and Toader Ghimpu on May 24, 1939; he had four siblings: Gheorghe Ghimpu, Gheorghe, Visarion, Valentina, and Mihai Ghimpu, Mihai. Simion Ghimpu graduated from the Moldova State University in 1964 and got a PhD from the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts from Moscow in 1969. Simion Ghimpu worked for the Art Institute of Chişinău (1969–2000). Simion Ghimpu is a member of the Moldovan Writers' Union and a lyricist. Simion Stoilow or Stoilov ( – 4 April 1961) was a Romanian mathematician, creator of the Romanian school of complex analysis, and author of over 100 publications. Biography He was born in Bucharest, and grew up in Craiova. His father, Colonel Simion Stoilow, fought at the in the Romanian War of Independence. After studying at the Obedeanu elementary school and the Carol I High School, Stoilow went in 1907 to the University of Paris, where he earned a B.S. degree in 1910 and a Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1916. His doctoral dissertation was written under the direction of Émile Picard. He returned to Romania in 1916 to fight in the Romanian Campaign of World War I, first in Dobrudja, then in Moldavia. After the war, he became professor of mathematics at the University of Iași (1919–1921) and the University of Cernăuți (1921–1939). Simion Bărnuțiu (; 21 July 1808 – 28 May 1864) was a Transylvanian, later Romanian historian, academic, philosopher, jurist, and liberal politician. A leader of the 1848 revolutionary movement of Transylvanian Romanians, he represented its Eastern Rite Catholic wing. Bărnuțiu lived for a large part of his life in Moldavia, and was for long a professor of philosophy at Academia Mihăileană and at the University of Iași. Simion Bughici (b. Simon David, December 14, 1914 – February 1, 1997) was a Romanian communist politician who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania. Life and career Bughici was born in Iași to a Jewish family of klezmer musicians; his father and two brothers perished during the June 1941 Iași pogrom. Simion Stolnicu (pen name of Alexandru I. Botez; November 6, 1905–November 29, 1966) was a Romanian poet. Born in Puchenii-Moșneni, Prahova County, his parents were Al. Botez, a ''Căile Ferate Române'' clerk, and his wife Ecaterina (''née'' Ionescu). He attended primary school in his native village from 1914 to 1918, under the name Alexandrescu I. Alexandru.
