''SAGE: A Scholarly Journal on Black Women'' was a biannual peer-reviewed academic journal which was published by the Sage Women's Educational Press. It was established in 1984 by co- editors-in-chief Beverly Guy-Sheftall and Patricia Bell-Scott. It was "the only journal of its kind devoted exclusively to the experience of black women", and its operations had been completely overseen by black women. The journal was published from 1984 until 1995. Women's Studies
Women's studies is an academic field that draws on feminist and interdisciplinary methods to place women's lives and experiences at the center of study, while examining social and cultural constructs of gender; systems of privilege and oppression; and the relationships between power and gender as they intersect with other identities and social locations such as race, sexual orientation, socio-economic class, and disability. Black Feminism
Black feminism is a philosophy that centers on the idea that "Black women are inherently valuable, that lack women'sliberation is a necessity not as an adjunct to somebody else's but because our need as human persons for autonomy." Race, gender, and class discrimination are all aspects of the same system of hierarchy, which bell hooks calls the "imperialist white supremacist, capitalist patriarchy." Due to their inter-dependency, they combine to create something more than experiencing racism and sexism independently. An ethnic group or an ethnicity is a grouping of people who identify with each other on the basis of shared attributes that distinguish them from other groups.
