Rustmästare
Rustmästare is a former Swedish rank that literally means the one responsible for the armory. History and related ranks Origin 1600 Rustmästare was originally an underofficer rank and the holder of the rank was responsible for the care of the armory, weaponry and ammunition within a company. 1833/87 Holders of the rank were elevated to Furir. 1957 The rank was reintroduced as the highest rank within the Underbefäls category. 1972 The rank of rustmästare was replaced with fanjunkare, and the rank was removed. Military ranks of the Swedish Armed Forces shows the rank system used in the Swedish Armed Forces today, as well as changes during the 20th century due to changes in the personnel structure. Fanjunkare (OR-7) is a Swedish military rank above Översergeant and below Förvaltare. The word 'Fanjunkare' is derived from German 'Fahnenjunker', and denotes a standard-bearer, hence 'Colour Sergeant'. Överfurir is a Swedish military rank (OR5) reintroduced in 2019, after having been abolished in 1991. Duties The ''överfurir'' is a Squad Leader at Skill Level C (Advanced). Lieutenant colonel (LtCol) ( sv, Överstelöjtnant, Övlt) is a field grade officer rank in the Swedish Armed Forces, just above the rank of major and just below the rank of colonel. It is equivalent to the naval rank of commander in the Swedish Navy. History Lieutenant colonel denotes the closest below the colonel's regimental officer rank. The term is almost as old as colonel and initially referred to his closest aides. Nowadays, the lieutenant colonel in a regiment in most armies has become the colonel's closest assistant. In Sweden, in peacetime he is sometimes battalion commander; in war as well as during major troop exercises he often commands regiments. Lieutenant colonels serves as commanding officer of a battalion or second-in-command of a brigade. Major (Maj) ( sv, Major, Mj) is a field grade military officer rank in the Swedish Armed Forces, above the rank of captain and below the rank of lieutenant colonel. It is equivalent to the naval rank of lieutenant commander in the Swedish Navy. History The rank of major was introduced in the middle of the 16th century in the Spanish and German armies, and its holders were assigned to the regimental commander. After the introduction of the battalion division, the major was eventually given command of a battalion in all armies, as was the lieutenant colonel. Förvaltare is a Swedish military rank (OR-8) for Specialist Officers above Fanjunkare and below Regementsförvaltare in the army and Flottiljförvaltare in the Air force and is translated to Sergeant Major. Furir (from French '' fourrier'', a person responsible for the feed) is a Swedish military rank (OR5) reintroduced in 2019, after having been abolished in 2009. Duties The ''Furir'' is a Squad Leader at Skill Level B (Intermediate). History The responsibility of a Furir was to arrange for housing as well as the distribution of food in a Company.
