The Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology (russian: link=no, Государственная Публичная Научно-Техническая Библиотека России), abbreviated GPNTB (russian: link=no, ГПНТБ) is a national library for engineering, science, and technology in Moscow, Russia. It was founded in 1958 on the basis of the State Science Library of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Soviet Union. It is located in Kharoshevskiy district of Moscow. A national library is a library established by a government as a country's preeminent repository of information. Unlike public library, public libraries, these rarely allow citizens to borrow books. Often, they include numerous rare, valuable, or significant works. A national library is that library which has the duty of collecting and preserving the literature of the nation within and outside the country.
