Rundfunk Anstalt Südtirol
The Rundfunkanstalt Südtirol (Italian: ''Radiotelevisione Azienda Speciale'', Ladin: ''Radiotelevijion- Azienda per Südtirol'') is a public broadcasting service, completely funded by grants of the provincial government, for the majority German-speaking province of South Tyrol, Italy whose purpose is to relay programmes from the public broadcasters of Austria, Germany, German and Romansh Switzerland. The agency has its headquarters in the province's capital city Bolzano. RAS is not related to the regional trilingual programme of RAI, the Italian public broadcaster. History When television broadcasts began, the German-speaking population of South Tyrol asked for the reception of the Austrian television station but it wasn't possible because RAI has the monopoly to have radio and television stations. ORF 2 (''ORF zwei'', formerly FS2) is an Austrian public television channel owned by ORF. It was launched on 11 September 1961 as a technical test programme. Today it is one of the four public TV channels in Austria. ORF 2 is available via DVB-T in Germany near the Austrian border and in parts of Munich. It is funded by a mixture of advertising breaks and a television licence fee; as such, unlike its German equivalents (which are generally available free-to-air), ORF 2 and its sister stations are encrypted over satellite. Radio Tirol is the regional radio for Tyrol and the German-speaking population of South Tyrol, and is part of the Österreich 2 group. It is broadcast by the ORF, and the programmes from Radio Tirol are made in the ORF Tirol Studio. History The first radio broadcasting tryouts in Tyrol started in 1926 in Aldrans close to Innsbruck. The history of the ORF Tirol Studio reaches back to the 1945 built "''Sendergruppe West''. This group had 2 studios, one in Tyrol and one in Vorarlberg. In 1952 the transmitters were handed over to the state government of Tyrol. The program was mixed, from news and information shows to classical music, radio dramas and other features. RSI LA 1 (''la uno'', formerly TSI 1) is one of two television channels produced by Radiotelevisione Svizzera di lingua Italiana for the Italian-speaking community of Switzerland. LA 1, which can be received in all parts of the country, is a generalist channel with a schedule encompassing news, entertainment, drama, cinema films, documentaries, and sport. Arte (; (), sometimes stylized in lowercase or uppercase in its logo) is a European public service channel dedicated to culture. It is made up of three separate companies: the Strasbourg-based European Economic Interest Grouping ARTE, plus two member companies acting as editorial and programme production centres, ARTE France in Paris (formerly known as La Sept) and ARTE Deutschland in Baden-Baden (a subsidiary of the two main public German TV networks ARD and ZDF). As an international joint venture (an EEIG), its programmes focus on audiences in both countries.
