Robert Pierrepont, 3rd Earl Of Kingston-upon-Hull
Robert Pierrepont, 3rd Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull (c. 1660 – June 1682) was an English peer. The eldest son of Robert Pierrepont of Thoresby, Nottinghamshire, and his wife Elizabeth Evelyn, and the grandson of William Pierrepont of Thoresby, in 1680, he succeeded his great-uncle, Henry Pierrepont, 1st Marquess of Dorchester, as Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull. He died unmarried at Dieppe in 1682 and was succeeded in the earldom by his brother William Pierrepont, 4th Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull. William Pierrepont (politician)
William Pierrepont (c. 160717 July 1678) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1640 and 1660. He supported the Parliamentary cause in the English Civil War. Life Pierrepont was the second son of Robert Pierrepont, 1st Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull and his wife Gertrude Talbot, daughter of Hon. Henry Talbot of Burton Abbey, Yorkshire. He matriculated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 1624 and was admitted at Lincoln's Inn on 1 April 1627. He was appointed Sheriff of Shropshire for 1638 In April 1640, Pierrepont was elected Member of Parliament for Shropshire in the Short Parliament. He was elected MP for Great Wenlock in the Long Parliament in November 1640. He threw his influence on the side of peace and took part for the parliament in the negotiations with Charles I at Oxford in 1643. Henry Pierrepont, 1st Marquess Of Dorchester
Henry Pierrepont, 1st Marquess of Dorchester, PC, FRSFRCP(March 16068 December 1680) was an English peer. He was the son of Robert Pierrepont, 1st Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull, and his wife, the former Gertrude Talbot, daughter of George Talbot and Elizabeth Reyner, and cousin of the Earl of Shrewsbury. Career Styled Viscount Newark from 1628, he was member of parliament for Nottingham from 1628 until 1629, and was summoned to the House of Lords in his father's Barony of Pierrepont in 1641. He succeeded his father as 2nd Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull in 1643. During the earlier part of the English Civil War he was at Oxford in attendance upon the King, whom he represented at the negotiations at Uxbridge. In 1645 he was made a Privy Counsellor and created Marquess of Dorchester; but in 1647 he compounded for his estates by paying a large fine to the parliamentarians. Kingston upon Hull, usually abbreviated to Hull, is a port city and unitary authority in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Earldom Of Kingston-upon-Hull
Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull was a title in the Peerage of Great Britain, with the title Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull being a title in the Peerage of England. The Earldom was created on 25 July 1628 for Robert Pierrepont, 1st Viscount Newark. The Dukedom was created on 10 August 1715 for his great-grandson, Evelyn Pierrepont, 1st Marquess of Dorchester, who had succeeded as the fifth Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull in 1690. The Dukedom became extinct on the death of the second Duke in 1773. Unlike the city to which they refer, Kingston upon Hull, which is usually shortened to Hull, these titles are usually shortened to Duke (or Earl) of Kingston. (The titles were hyphenated but the city is now usually written without hyphens). They should not be confused with the separate Irish Earldom of Kingston (which refers to the town of Kingston in County Dublin). William Pierrepont, 4th Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull (c. 1662 – 17 September 1690) was a British peer and Member of Parliament. The second son of Robert Pierrepont of Thoresby Nottinghamshire and his wife Elizabeth Evelyn, Pierrepont was born on the Evelyn estate of West Dean, Wiltshire. He was educated at Trinity College, Oxford. He inherited the Earldom of Kingston-upon-Hull in June 1682 from his elder brother Robert Pierrepont, 3rd Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull. In 1689 and 1690 he acted as Colonel of a Regiment of Foot, Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire and Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Chief Justice in Eyre North of the Trent, and High Steward of Kingston-upon-Hull. He died in 1690 of apoplexy at Holme Pierrepont, and was succeeded as 5th Earl by his younger brother Evelyn Pierrepont.
